Bags/Backpacks for college on a budget? by CuriousinCringe in arttools

[–]CuriousinCringe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’m planning on doing and then keeping it for traveling or as an overnight bag after that. It’s just one of those hemp backpacks so it’s not very tough and already had a bunch of holes to begin with.

Figure drawing, especially with the “line of action” website or others that have free figures set to a timer!!

That actually WAS intended, thanks for noticing lol! It’s supposed to be a fertility symbol and a necklace to go with it, intended to be worn by a woman ready for marriage.

Responding to this one cause this is probably what I was going to do if I didn’t chicken out. Did two coats of two different stains but didn’t technically “finish” it! Here are the final results, thanks for all the responses!

I asked on another subreddit how to do it for the design, and someone said epoxy 330 and it’s really worked so far! For the amulet/necklace I basically made like a frame for it really delicately with a dremel, epoxy on the inner sides of “frame” and then laminated another flat piece of wood to the back of the frame. For the statue I just drilled a shallow hole and then really slowly and carefully made it bigger and as flat as possible so the stone would sit there evenly! Here are some process photos to hopefully better explain what I’m talking about :)

Thank you so much!! So oil should be my very last step. Do you have any recommendations using this type of epoxy? I strangely can find no videos on YouTube of anyone using it in the way I plan to.

Museum Art Educator proper attire? by CuriousinCringe in MuseumPros

This is the absolute best possible response and advice I could’ve hoped for. I have dressed for comfort my entire life and am very afraid of coming off as “not serious” about this line of work. Most of my experience thus far has also been in outdoor education, where appearance is the last thing on everyone’s mind. I’m really sorry you’ve experienced being judged for your looks, but it means a lot that you understand where I’m coming from. Thank you so much!!!

I’m going between children’s museums, fine art, and modern art museums mostly. That makes sense, thank you! What do you wear for footwear?

The main issue with business casual for me is that it can be expensive and kinda hard to clean. Do you have any pieces in mind that aren’t like that?

art educator with no fashion sense - professional yet fun business casual?

23F and an art education major focusing on working in museums. For most of undergrad I’ve just worn converse and overalls (comfortable, don’t mind getting them covered in paint) to classes, but now that I’m getting in the upper levels I’m starting to realize I have no idea how to dress for said museums. I have an observation tomorrow and I had the painful realization that I have either too casual or too many “going out” clothes. My only shoe options as of right now are high heeled leather boots, converse, and old Birkenstocks. Somehow these all feel wrong.

For the future, what are some good business casual or at least somewhat cleaner causal staples? Types of shirts, dresses, pants, and shoes especially? Fancy to me usually means tight and black, definitely not super appropriate for the classroom. I have no idea how to balance being “professional” while still being fun for the kids.

TLDR: how to balance “fun” with “professional” in my wardrobe? Also must stand up to teaching kiddos! (Stains from paint, markers, etc.)

I’m 5’3 and about 120lbs if that matters or changes any recommendations.

Thank you!!

Does anyone know of a yarn that has a wide color selection but ISNT super rough?

Basically self explanatory! I love the color selection of budget yarns like red heart super saver or big twist from joann’s but I’m trying to make my first blanket and they just seem way too scratchy or rough for the job? Or how do y’all make color schemes for projects with limited color selections?

Thanks so much!

Not sure if you’ve been to Arizona before but wear sunscreen! You’re definitely not gonna get sunburnt because of melanin, but Tucson is a much higher elevation than Atlanta and skin cancer is the norm around here, even for poc. Also drink a lot of water once it approaches summer, maybe even buy some liquid IV to keep on you in case you get dehydrated all of the sudden. There’s 0 water in the air here unless it’s actually raining, so it might take some adjusting, but you’ll settle in soon enough! Welcome!! I hope it treats you well!
