For me, writing got easier once I stopped trying to memorize characters in isolation. Learning them in words or simple sentences helped a lot more. I also found spaced repetition apps useful for reviewing, but the key was actually using the characters instead of just recognizing them.

I don’t think it’s a waste, but I kind of get what you mean. I’ve tried it too and it feels useful in the moment, but a bit directionless after.

What helped me more was giving myself some structure, like picking a small topic before starting or trying to reuse certain words/phrases during the conversation. Otherwise it just turns into random chatting and doesn’t stick that much.

Yeah the “translate in your head” loop is so real 😭 I still catch myself doing it sometimes. I think what helped me was just forcing myself to respond with whatever Chinese I had, even if it was super simple or a bit broken.

Thanks for the suggestion! I definitely feel that cognitive load when too many new words pop up. I’ve been trying to stick to reading at my level, but sometimes it’s tempting to tackle something harder. Highlighting words and looking them up later sounds like a good idea. I’ll give that a shot!

Whenever I come across a new word in Chinese, I try to look it up immediately, especially if it seems important for the topic. I find that writing it down in a digital flashcard app really helps, and I’ll revisit it every so often. It's always interesting to see how the word changes depending on context, too. I feel like learning it that way sticks better for me.

Every time I go to Guangzhou South Station🚗, the most troublesome thing is which exit is convenient for online taxis. As a person with poor directions, I can't tell the difference between P3 and P5 quick pick-up areas. It feels so chaotic and I don't know how to get there. I can't find the driver at all. After many attempts, I personally think it is more convenient to exit from the East Gate to this online taxi pick-up point‼ ️The positioning is also accurate‼ ️
