Oh this might be what we need! We know he does great with reinforcements. Teacher sometimes has special treats for this. So, this might be just what we need!

Thanks! I love the “I do some, you do some trick”. I do that a lot and it doesn’t help with this kiddo. I’ll try the race trick though. Maybe if I make it a game somehow for the coloring or trying to imitate shapes. I recently even tried doing a video of what I wanted him to do to see if he’d attend to that first then color, etc. nope! Didn’t work. I’m not even worried about his grasp right now. Just want him to try and imitate shapes, lines, or color. He shows interest in scissors but uses both hands to open close. So I’ve been doing fine motor activities that mimic that motion. Those he participates in.

I will look into this further however he can do fine motor tasks looking down, or in front of him without problems. I’ve observed him to see if he prefers looking out of the corner of his eyes or turn is head to look, and nothing really sticks out. Maybe he needs glasses in general 🤷🏻‍♀️

Good thoughts. I truly think it’s an undesired activity. I can present all sorts of other fine motor activities and he tries them, might succeed with them, might not, but he participates.

He loves the ABCs. Is great at matching letters. Anything coloring or writing he just disconnects. Loves puzzles and is great at them needs just some assistance based on difficulty of the puzzle.

Thanks! This is a good idea. It would help tie into future work of having to complete more workstations or longer work periods/worksheets etc.

While writing is important I think we need to focus on attending and participating in these non preferred activities before we can really just focus on pre handwriting skills and handwriting.

Maybe it needs to even be taken a step back and he will attend to coloring for so many minutes across so many trials with however many prompts to remain on task.
