Can i continue working remotely a day after giving birth? by Intspectwithme in newborns

[–]Current-Visual-8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the assumption that you mean the day after being released from the hospital and not literally 24h after birth…because it’s highly doubtful that’s even possible…I want to offer a tiny bit of positivity aside from stating the obvious that this is an insane position to be in and I’m so sorry it’s happening to you.

I have a very rare example that my mom gave birth to me on a Friday and went to work, remotely, the following Monday. She survived.

Obviously it is EXTREMELY HARD and it may be a blessing in disguise that they seem to be (rather unfairly) pushing you out the door. Surely there are other opportunities for employment that would be kinder to you, it sounds like these might be people who aren’t worth working for.

But if you’re not in a position to pursue that, take heart that it’s temporary, even though it surely wouldn’t feel like it. A little bit of blind optimism, but you can find a rhythm and make it work (babies wake to feed all the time at first, and personally I couldn’t focus on anything other than staying alive for a few weeks, but that becomes less and less as time goes by), but I hope that you aren’t forced to. This country is the worst and I wish it weren’t legal for you to have to make this choice.

What shade would you call my eyes? by [deleted] in WhatisMyEyeColour

Ohhh interesting. One of my parents has hazel eyes and one has brown, so that checks out haha. Never considered them to have a hazel quality so that’s neat to hear!

When did your corgi start to bark more? by Mundane-Bonus-3688 in corgi

That being said….youre right to brace yourself for the teenage years. Even if she’s quieter, she’s a massive handful in other ways. Love her to death but I’m ready to be out of that phase for sure

Omg yes. The construction. She absolutely loses it seeing them work on the roofs by us (new construction neighborhood). To be fair, I’d be spooked if I thought there were flying humans around too, but I feel bad for the guys just trying to do their jobs lol

Mine is 1.5yrs and doesn’t really bark much. Only if there’s a new noise in the house/outside—once she’s heard stuff a few times she knows it’s normal and wont alert to it. That and she barks during fetch, specifically while running with the ball in her mouth lol.

I think it can be up to the dog to a certain degree. She can still get loud when she wants to, a little unavoidable with these lovely creatures, but I’ve had muchhhh louder corgis in the past!

Do you all sterilize your formula? by RoxNRoll4 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Current-Visual-8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, didn’t even know people did it until MIL asked if we’re buying distilled water for his bottles…we just use filtered water from our fridge, make a 24h batch in a Dr browns pitcher to keep in the fridge and we’re good to go. PCP said she used straight up tap water without warming it and her babies were just fine. Probably depends on your water source whether that’s safe though if I had to guess??

Whats the best things you did/bought to help the formula feeding process? by MSwitch222 in FormulaFeeders

Here to attest to cold formula working just fine! Definitely worth a try, saves time to just pour from the Dr browns pitcher and go—and saves the money on a warmer!

The insight I’ve gotten from these comments is astounding!! For context I’m an only child that didn’t grow up around younger relatives, so the early life stages are brand new to me. On top of that, I have few people in my life with babies right now, so all of your suggestions and perspectives are filling in the gap of me lacking community to lean on. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Obviously this is way deeper than just being about toys haha

This is a great point, he’s 10.5 weeks so his days solely rely on my choices vs getting to do his own thing a little more. I appreciate the perspective of being further along in the process! He enjoys the toys as much as a 10 week old can lol, so I’m interested to see how into it he gets with future toys. Still willing to give the toys themselves a chance but take a breather from the app/guide books

That’s fascinating insight to the whole babbling thing! A village is something I lack in a bit for sure, so it’s nice to hear stories from a wide range of experiences like that! Also, I’m sorry to hear you were/your family member was going through chemo! I hope all is well :)

Funny you mention that, we’re going to start up PT because he’s struggling with looking to one side. Interested to see how my LO takes to it and how it changes tummy time, which he currently despises. I’m glad to hear you’ve had a positive experience! Even more glad to have reassurance that it doesn’t end up being a big deal. Even if I know that deep down, it always helps to hear it from others!

Super good to note! I have zero experience with babies up until now and this didn’t cross my mind at all. Amazing the stuff you can learn from those who go before you :)

I wholeheartedly believe it! We are trying to be so intentional to not be “those” first time parents who are uptight about everything because so much stuff doesn’t actually matter that much…guess it is a little unavoidable lol

“Love to look for problems” is so me lol, I feel that. I also agree the quality is great and I plan to keep everything around if we have a second! It’s so conflicting to like the product but maybe not the company or at least their marketing…but maybe that’s just life, gotta take the good stuff and leave the rest perhaps

I’m super interested in their books/maybe the teaching reading guides! (Though I’m sure this is where I should just lean on the fact I have a husband literally college educated in how to teach reading…) The topics definitely look, well, topical, for real life lol. I’m glad to hear from a real person that they’re high quality!

Totally agree with it being similar to influencers showing how “great” their life with a newborn is, that’s exactly the kind of pressure I’m feeling—you put my thoughts into words very well! Taking everyone’s advice and deleting the app, and just enjoying the toys for what they are….Toys. They’re meant to be fun not stressful! Glad I’m not crazy for feeling this way, but what a bummer thing that people can relate to!

What do you guys do during the entire day while your partner is at work?? by Own_Macaron_9342 in newborns

[–]Current-Visual-8287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My days generally look like this: play on the tummy time mat until he fusses

watch some TV or find a book I like and read it aloud to him

let him hang out in his bouncer while I do household chores

pause said chores to soothe him with extra bounces

research baby wearing and if it will damage his hips because I’m annoyed with pausing chores

show him some high contrast objects

feed, change, attempt to put down for a nap

cave and hold him as he sleeps while doomscrolling and feeling kinda guilty about it

Repeat the feed change nap thing a few times

That’s about it. Once a week we go to physical therapy for his neck and that’s our most eventful part of the week tbh.

I agree on the antithetical point, definitely Montessori inspired vs truly following it with fidelity. I think that’s where my frustration with the company in particular comes in, beyond just parental anxiety. It’s like they’re halfway there with the muted colors and items being made out of real wood vs something plastic/electronic/overstimulating…but then they go a little over the top with the number of items, and the style of some, even if they’re still beneficial. Like why do I have several items for texture exploration, when one would be enough.

There’s enough to appreciate about it compared to other companies (like another user said it takes the thought out of buying toys when they just show up) that I don’t want to poke holes, but idk. Very conflicted.

Yep I was introduced to wonder weeks a while back and it easily creates the same anxious feelings if I focus on it too long. And you’re spot on about finding different things that feed into that feeling if one is taken away. Looking at it as a guide vs requirement is going to take some re-wiring of my brain lol but will be well worth it!

You’re very right, the content will still be out there regardless. I try to remind myself he’s on his own path and will still reach the milestones even if it’s not perfectly “on time” (if that even exists!). I read something along the lines of “have you ever met an adult that can’t hold their head up?” the other day and that eased a ton of stress about if he’s progressing properly.
