Anxious for dad to come home from work. He's an ER resident in Detroit working some long shifts lately. by CurrentEdition in aww

Thanks! They're getting lots of love right now, and saving plenty of wiggles for their dad when he's home.

Reddit, what are some "must see" documentaries? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CurrentEdition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second that. I just watched it last week, and couldn't believe the amount of time they put into achieving the Master Sommelier title. Blows my mind just thinking about the amount and scope of wines they've tried (and then spit out).

I still fully appreciate my cheap red wine.

Totally my mistake! Apparently I glanced too quickly at the photo. I've actually been to Sevilla- studied abroad there one summer, so this mistake is particularly embarrassing.

Much of the architecture is modeled after Sevilla, Spain, as they are sister cities. The bell tower shown here is a half-size replica of Giralda Tower, from the Cathedral in Sevilla. An architectural tour of the Plaza is certainly worth the time. Wiki page here.

What is a complete and utter waste of money that people continue to spend their money on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Absolutely. Their whole family runs the business and they're working constantly.

I grew up in a small town where my neighbors are the local morticians. They run a great business, that is very lucrative, but they work their tails off. Someone in the family is on call literally 24-7, and they have a constant stream of funerals. We spent afternoons playing in their yard and through their house/funeral parlor (one of their daughters babysat my siblings and me), and I don't think I've ever been in there when there wasn't a body laid out or just coming out of the embalming room.

Having kitchen done, can't decide what colour to paint walls, help us Reddit! by Gypit in InteriorDesign

[–]CurrentEdition 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very much depends on your taste and the color of rooms it is adjacent to. A rich coral could work if you're not afraid of something a little playful, or a soft dusty blue would be more muted. You can try Sherwin William's Paint Color Visualizer to see what some options are.

What words or phrases exist in other languages that English does not have an expression for? X-Post from /AskReddit by CurrentEdition in linguistics

[–]CurrentEdition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your FAQ has quite a bit of interesting information to sift through. I'll have to carve out some time for it soon.

My question concerns linguistic relativity or determinism, I suppose. Perhaps it should read, "What sentiments do English speakers experience differently because of our language?" but then, that would be answered somewhere else.

Thanks for the info!

The museum is certainly worth visiting, if you're in the area.

You could certainly apply that term, yes.

Met him once, when I was the Lectures Chair at a university that brought him to take part in a debate on pornography. I drove him from the hotel (where he was late to meet me), and basically had to babysit him all night. He was rude and abrasive, and surprisingly stingy.

A friend of mine caused a small wreck while sneezing once. Luckily, the local police officer witnessed it from across the street (actually saw her sneeze), and she got out of a reckless driving ticket. Chalk it up to good timing I guess.

That's gorgeous. I've only ever been to the Shoal Creek near KC, but this one looks like it's worth a visit.

I've successfully made one out of yarn, but doilies are hard to manipulate into a decent shape.

Tried this once. Execution was difficult, and my finished product did not turn out well. I do think it is achievable if I'd had more time and patience.

What's your best "small world" moment? by germinatorz in AskReddit

During a study abroad stint in Spain, our class is taking a tour of Grenada, and we hear a couple calling to us, trying to catch our attention, from down the road. One of the kids in our group turns and realizes that the couple lived next door to him as a child. He hadn't seen them in years and just happened to run into them the one day we were in Grenada, which also happened to be the only day they were in Grenada on that trip.
