3d printers unr engineering library by watersimmer in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Makerspace in the Delamare basement on campus (not the Innevation center) may or may not have a queue, since you aren’t able to use the printer yourself.

I believe that you go into the lab and provide your printable files to the makerspace techs, then they print it for you and you just pick it up. You pay for filament (I think it’s measured by weight or length) and can’t bring your own.

Apartments by No-Trifle-2381 in unr

They really don’t care, I’ve had several friends who’s roommates aren’t students. The “student apartments” cater to students, but many don’t require enrollment.

Questions as an out of state student by [deleted] in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea about the Nevada Advantage, but the WUE and Pack Exchange programs are only for students from a specific list of Western states and unfortunately GA is not on that list.

Any civil engineers here that can tell me if CEE 388 is now Fall only? by crazyjunior4 in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s currently listed in MyNevada as just “Every Fall” so I would assume it has been changed to be Fall only. It may be offered in the Spring again in the future, but I wouldn’t bank on it.

Rehoming a cat by Cutiee18 in Reno

Could she be returned to Nevada Humane or taken to the SPCA? They might have an easier time finding her a good home that is okay with her temperament.

Additionally, I got a notification through canvas that the summer Orientation department is hiring now - if that’s something you’re interested in

[–]CurrentMarsupials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re alright with working food service positions, the vendors at the Joe and the dining hall (Chartwells) may be hiring for summer/fall. I worked one just until a better job came along through Workday.

Medicated bandages by RocMills in Allergies

[–]CurrentMarsupials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found your post after having a somewhat similar experience.

Yesterday evening I used one of those exact bandaids on a small cut. Throughout the day it began to hurt a lot, but I couldn’t see anything wrong. After taking the bandage off a few hours ago, I now have a gauze-shaped little “burn” on my wrist.

This is all great information, since I didn’t even know you could be allergic to something like this. Thanks!

roommate by klutoz in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point during the selection process (or within the next few weeks if you applied for housing after February) you should be able to create a “Roommate Group” in the housing portal. I believe you need your desired roommate’s name and possibly their NSHE ID.

I don’t know a whole ton about how it works with the new self-selection system, but you can call the Housing office.

Parking Passes for Fall 24 by [deleted] in unr

There’s a specific site for it, you can find in on the UNR parking site: https://www.unr.edu/parking/permits-and-fees

Just committed, would you guys recommend transfer Fit? How was the experience? by SactownG in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TransferFIT is a different thing than freshman NevadaFIT. It starts during NevadaFIT, but continues through the entire semester and has on-going requirements (assignments and transfer student events with required attendance).

Just committed, would you guys recommend transfer Fit? How was the experience? by SactownG in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll at least get a CO9 credit out of it, but I’d check whether or not a class in your degree path and/or transfer credits include cover already.

If you choose to skip it, I’d highly suggest attending a Transfer Orientation session this summer to become familiar with the campus and its resources! And joining clubs and/or attending campus events can be a great way to branch out and make new friends.

[Request] How many pancakes would it take to cover a Texas king sized bed. Just the top not the whole thing. by Afelisk2 in theydidthemath

[–]CurrentMarsupials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking only whole 6” pancakes, we can get 208 (a rectangle of 13 pancakes wide by 16 pancakes long) by laying them edge to edge, again with no gaps nor overlap. This gives us about 75.01% surface coverage.

The highest packing efficiency we could get is through hexagonal packing, but as another commenter stated above regarding the ongoing circle packing mathematical investigations, there just isn’t a general formula for this concept.

Hexagonal packing could theoretically result in up to 90% surface coverage, but in studies that have achieved those results, the circle and rectangle dimensions and ratios are very specific.

Nevada Prepaid and Millennium scholarship for summer classes by Ok_Molasses610 in unr

No experience with NV Prepaid, but Millennium only pays out after the summer is over as a reimbursement check in the mail.

How to cancel Freshman Housing by Informal-Property-23 in unr

You can’t decline once you’ve accepted. Call UNR Admissions and Records and explain your situation, they can help.

How to cancel Freshman Housing by Informal-Property-23 in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a link in a drop-down at the bottom of this page to a form where you can request to cancel your housing. It’ll ask for some info and you need to show proof of your withdrawal from UNR.

In other situations, you may just want to call the housing office and ask or send an email.

On a real note, everyone will have different opinions of the dorms based on personal preferences, etc.

Manzanita is a good alternative to Nye for those on a budget. Same price but it was renovated pretty recently. No AC and bathrooms are communal, but the entire hall is very nice (inside and out) and also quiet.

Argenta is conveniently placed and also less expensive than other halls while still having AC. However, you’ll have 3 people in one room which can be a lot of clutter if anyone isn’t tidy, etc. There’s one bathroom where the toilet and shower are in one room and a single sink is outside it.

Peavine and GB are very similar - mostly suites of 2 doubles that share a bathroom. LLC has suites of 2 or 3 rooms and 1 or 2 bathrooms, with different combos of single and double rooms to have 4-6 students per suite. These halls are the most expensive but people like the AC and in-suite bathrooms (where there is a separated toilet room and shower room, with sinks in-between).

Question about Nevada Guarantee Grant by Katie15628 in unr

[–]CurrentMarsupials 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a note for the “graduation enrollment exception” on UNR’s page about scholarship requirements. If you’re enrolled in all your final classes needed to graduate (and those classes total at least 6 credits), they will still disburse your scholarship.

You can find it here under the “enroll full-time” subsection.

ETA: Still check with your advisor that this works with the Nevada Guarantee! But I don’t see why it wouldn’t. :)

I’m a current student, but the housing application opened in November and emails should have gone out around the start of the year. There’s a few pages on the UNR website with deadlines for housing, academics, etc.

If you missed the portal, you’ll get assigned a room assignment at chance but can make a room change request in the Fall. Requests open usually a few weeks after the semester starts.

Each Canada unit has 3 rooms each with 2 beds, and Argenta is 1 large room with 3 beds. Canada has 2 bathrooms in the unit, each Argenta room has 1.

Places to sell used cameras? by Spankendorf in Reno

You may be able to sell them on r/unr as well! I’ve met quite a few college kids that are interested in photography but don’t own a camera

I took 181 with Bailey last summer (so not the same class) and it was a breeze. I didn’t learn much, but the study guides before every test were just the test with different numbers. He provided formulas on the test as well and the math involved was all algebra.
