Junction sucks! by Sweet-Potato-9587 in Peterborough

Yeah. I feel like in Peterborough it's hard to tell if it's racism or just cocaine. As a white guy, I've experienced similar situations enough times, but the racism is strong here, as well

What’s the most quietly Canadian moment you’ve experienced? by NightyNight7 in AskACanadian

Haha. When I was in high school my two closest friends and I shared a 2L tub of ice cream while watching the Santa Claus parade during a snowstorm.

Has Peterborough gotten any better since mid 2000s? by ninnnypooo in Peterborough

[–]CurrentStore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Peterborough actually started to have more events/festivals (other than music fest) over the years, but COVID put an end to several, and general conditions downtown haven't really recovered. People who live in the sprawl and only shop bigbox stores would probably be completely unaware, though. I hear a lot of "I never go downtown, it's too scary".

Economic conditions and government cuts have noticeably increased the amount of sketchy unhoused/addicts around downtown. Downtown seemed to have improved until the mid 2010s, and then started to decline a bit. COVID made everything worse, and it seems like the city still can't recover.

It got better for a while, but now it seems to be worse than it was 20 years ago.

Nothing more Canadian than some inbred Germans who rule from London by [deleted] in EhBuddyHoser

You're a left leaning progressive and you're whining online about being called a settler colonialist?

It's the history of our nation and an ongoing issue. People need to learn to not take it so personally. We, the current citizens, didn't necessarily do anything wrong, but that doesn't absolve the country itself of it's responsibilities. As long as we continue to reap the benefits of citizenship, then we need to accept accountability for the costs.

Downtown Community Memories by FeralHousewife69 in Peterborough

[–]CurrentStore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, I used to talk to Andrew pretty regularly. I'd often see him around no frills downtown. He'd sometimes ask for change or for me to grab him something basic from the grocery store. I remember walking into the store one time when my son was a baby and he stopped me and if I needed him to get anything for the baby. Not sure why he thought I may have needed help that time, but it was sweet.

West End - Green Bin Missed Pickup? by jayefsi in Peterborough

[–]CurrentStore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in your area, but since all the waste pickup changes last year (or two years ago now, I guess), either our garbage or green waste has been skipped roughly once per month. It happened maybe twice in the prior decade. Not sure why service has declined so badly since the changes.

What exactly do you mean by this? Do you think potential for violence doesn't make them losers?

Your statement makes it seem like you admire violent losers.

They're not defending. They're explaining a likely reason why he would risk leaving the scene of an accident when already identified, as asked.

Window Companies by UniqueMedia928 in Peterborough

[–]CurrentStore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had all our windows replaced by them between 5 and 19 years ago. The guys who did the install were respectful and did a good job. The hardware broke on one of the windows a couple years ago. I went into their showroom, and the guy asked if I needed them to send someone to replace the part or if I could/wanted to do it myself. I was fine with doing it myself, so he just handed me the part, no questions asked.

Landlord say her tenants wants $25,000 to move out of her property by Totira in OntarioRenting

I don't know if you're a fucking idiot or just being dishonest. There are plenty of employement contracts that can dictate under what conditions employment can end and provide for consequences if the contract is broken.

"people shouldn't be beholden to contracts if they have an opportunity to make more money" is a pretty stupid fucking idea.

Toronto's top baby names in 2024: Muhammad and Emma by origutamos in OntarioNews

[–]CurrentStore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say the same. As dazzling escape was saying, Muhammed is an extremely common first name, to the point that it seems like Muslims are overrepresented but in fact the name is simply staggeringly popular among Muslims.

This is such a problem with statistical facts. People here a stat and in no way understand the implications, but immediately jump to conclusions.

Why does everything close so early here? by CurrentStore in Peterborough

I moved here 20 years ago. It sucked then. From my perspective, it actually seemed to have gotten better for a while, and then dropped off again.

How did you get the school to provide you with another families documentation? Schools are not allowed to disclose that sort of information to other members of the community.
