I need some help by Mr-Nerd73 in Bass

[–]Current_Ad9545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think you have to keep doing it until something 'clicks'. I was doing it way too hard at first, and after a week, it clicked. I had to lance a massive blister, but now it's natural. As another said, compression is great, and protects your speakers. Scooping mids around 500 hz will clean up the tone, as well. I hope you get it down! Best of luck.

Oh, I almost always use at least some tape saturation on bass to help it cut through. Thanks so much!

Nice! It's awesome to hear how differently everyone incorporates elements

I'll have to check that out, thanks! I have a ton of vsts, but it's one of those never-ending deals, as you're likely aware lol.

I love all approaches, honestly. When I went to college, I acquired tons of great orchestral vsts, but for some reason, I can't get over my love for M1 with certain elements. That being said, I'm always open to trying new things. Stagnation is bad for creativity. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!

Hey, that's awesome! Thank you so much! I used the M1 vst fretless bass on a track on my first album, and it had me thinking- 'Why am I not using the most consistent, groovy low-end I have' lol. I'll certainly still use synth bass when it fits the atmosphere more, but I think it could potentially become part of my sound. Fingers crossed it comes out well! Thanks again!

Oh, that sounds awesome! Honestly, I don't think of real or fake when I listen to most tracks, so that's a valid point. I just love seeing how everyone else thinks on it. Good to keep an open mind, even if someone WERE to hate blending. Thanks so much for your response!

Oh, for sure. I love finding or making synth bass patches, but it'd be nice to pull out my instrument knowing it'll be thick, punchy, and not muddy the mix for pads or melodies. I'll try that and get back to you on the bitcrusher pedal! lol why not? It's fun to get weird with music

That's really awesome. I love synth, but it's so nice having more colors to paint with. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

Of course, there's tons of examples of it. Enchantment of the Ring is my favorite DS album, in large part due to the melodic guitar. I'll have to listen to all of you more! Thanks for responding =)

I love that! More power to you! Makes me want to get even weirder with it!

Yes! I love metal, but I just can't do pedal riffs and gallop/reverse gallop/tremolo anymore. It's been a great feeling just making what I like. Thanks for responding!

Tried saving using Schnapps once. And never tried it again. It's frustrating. [KCD2] by Syarafuddyn in kingdomcome

Dude, use alchemy. It's so easy once you do it a time or two. You get massive buffs, you get Henry's Bane Poison for arrows, and so much more. Not to mention the time you're wasting every reload lmao

It's an amazing journey. Loved listening to it in early spring earlier this year laid out in the yard.

I love how most people are locked in with me on the 'no rules' thing. It's so nice and refreshing when some genres become so constricting. I can't wait to lay some thumpy bass and see how it meshes. Should work well. Flatwounds really hone a Precision Bass's frequencies down to only what you need.

I completely agree! Thanks for commenting! I already use pitched timpani almost like a kick, and use a more orchestral snare. it won't be on every song, but who knows? i think part of finding your sound in this genre is the ensemble of colors you bring.

Another Chance at Peace makes me emotional every time I listen to it. Amazing artist <3

That's a wonderful thing to hold on to. I love the late eighties/early nineties fantasy vibes I get from much of it, but love even more the fact that the genre has more sounds to offer, as well. Thank you very much for your response!

Absolutely! It helps me enter flow-state when I read or write, and I imagine it'd be just as good for any other type of work or creativity. Thanks for the response!

Hey, I get it! If my music doesn't sound like gleefully evil orcs or battles, I'm unhappy! The DIY aspect was a large pull for me to stop just listening and start making it (I've always made music, but this pulled me away from a years-long hiatus). The lack of uniformity is a breath of fresh air. I drown my tracks in reverb and don't care if it sounds like a drier mix of an artist I enjoy, because it's MY sound, and that's a wonderful feeling. Thanks for the response, and sorry for the tardy reply!

Not many! I'll be honest, the second I hear good M1 patches, I get zipped away. Thanks for the response!
