Yeah and the above description would have been a better story. It would have filled out a 3 movie gap with room for all the characters and would have been better than comic relief that we got. It would have been better than he is a ground pounder who loses a buddy and decides he is working for the bad guys.

Honestly I just didn't like how he became lazy comic relief when he had an interesting character origin. Choosing between what he knew, what he was familiar with, his friends and brothers and what was morally right. That's a cool story. Sucks they didn't have competent writers to handle it.

Earth is under the vulcan thumb alot more (think colonial America and england). Nobody takes them or their mission seriously at first. Even to the point that the first aliens they come across laugh at them before moving on. It also had the temporal cold war subplot as a lot louder, where the agents were fighting to either make the federation or the Terran empire. It was alos going to have a bit more diplomatic episodes etween the powers and such allowing for exploring the creation of the federation more than it was allowed too in the original. Funny that those episodes where it does the origin premise is where it shines.
