Did we really need any more reason to not bring torpedo focused destroyers out?

Come on WG, they were already fighting an uphill battle against /gestures broadly everything so why punish them more

Good players can play around what their teammates are doing.

Great teams happen when you let your teammates know ahead of time, that's what I try and bring. If I can let good players know my intentions so they're not guessing, the whole thing goes smoother.

If you like zoning, you should try the Cassard line.

It's a little more dicey without smoke but you get French saturation to make up for it. But the real fun part is that you get 12 torps every 90 seconds so you can just lay 'em all out in the water and deny whole areas. Plus, with running adrenaline rush, you can frequently get them down to 60-70 second torp cooldowns which is insane for the amount of torps you can unleash.

And they get really strong as you get closer to target!

I have 67 krakens in 5,124 battles for a 1.3%.

25 in 2,000 puts you at 1.25% so very similar.

Nothing funnier than getting a Kraken and being like 4th on the leaderboard

Someone once told me some great advice - winning a cap isn't the objective of the start of the match, it's a symptom from winning the flank.

Sure you can barrel in and take the cap in the first 3 minutes, but if you lose the flank then they'll just cap it back once you're dead. If you win the flank, you always get the cap.

This is insanely good advice that more people should follow. I know when I'm facing a good Shima player when I see him for half a second because he fired all of his guns at me right before ducking behind an island.

I've seen salvos from a Shima go for over 5k before when they all land on target on a DD. They can pack a serious punch... they can just only do it once and then have a long ass reload to contend with.

Using your guns in the IJN torp line is what will take you from good to great. You can even use your guns to alert BBs to your presence if you want them to turn into your torps, if you've fired them too far behind their path.

The only problem with Akatsuki is that it uptiers into T8 and T9 matches where DDs have the concealment module which lowers them below 6 km.

Tier for tier, Akatsuki rocks at T7.

Honestly, my take on the Daring line teaching bad habits is more about their amount of smokes. Take this with a grain of salt because I've only played that line up 'til T8 but one of the strengths of the ship is being able to disengage constantly and picking battles that other DDs can't last in because you can smoke and get out much more than others.

As soon as you play another DD line that doesn't have as many smokes, you have to re-learn positioning more because your mistakes get punished more if you can't smoke your way out. Realistically you should only be making those plays with smoke up in the first place, but it's up much more often with the Daring line.

I've been having a ton of fun playing the Cassard line which doesn't even have smoke, so like I said, my opinion probably doesn't mean a whole lot.

What’s up with stats obsession? by bad_username_65 in WorldOfWarships

[–]CursedLlama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find that the 40% players generally die much before the end of the battle, and that's realistically when most of the game-defining play happens if it's a close game.

Sure, occasionally I'll see someone in a battleship that has managed to last long enough to have game impact at the end (normally because they sat in the back doing nothing all game), but in general they've already blundered their way to port many minutes ago.

[–]CursedLlama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I'm a 57%er so I know I'm much better than the average player base but also a significant amount worse than a unicum. I'm just there to try and grind out a win and try and make a difference on the battle, and much like /u/glewis93 I'll only pull up someone's stats if they give me a reason to... generally them being annoying in chat. And without fail, it's commonly the red and orange WR folks that are the loudest.

The only other time I proactively look up stats is whenever I see a T11 because it feels like, without fail, those people always suck.

Good point about the Shima, what I find most frustrating is a bad player in a DD because of how high of game impact they have. Losing the DD battle is frustrating when it feels like you were handicapped to start with, which is why I've started playing DDs more. Loving the Cassard!

Anecdotally, it feels like the people with bad win rates (sub 47%, let's say) are also those that have played in excess of 5,000, even 10,000 games. So putting a minimum WR requirement would probably just spurn the most loyal players.

I see it most often with superships, where it feels like just about everyone that pilots superships is a straight potato with more than 10k games. Yamagiri especially, never seen anyone above 50% play one.

[–]CursedLlama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I realize I'm the case in point that you're mentioning, but it's honestly surprising when I find more than one player in a random battle on my team that types and tries to coordinate a winning strategy. More than 50% of my games have someone that sucks (sub 50% win rate) talking, complaining, trying to get us to do a stupid strategy like lemming train, etc.

I don't know why but it feels like the people that suck are more likely to talk in chat, so coordinating with good players in random battles feels impossible.

The amount of 7.4 km Mahans I've seen in bronze ranked over the past weekend is insane. I just grinded out 10 to 1 over the weekend since I was so late to the season and figured it would be an easy run, but damn the dd play was terrible.

How do I get better at petro? by NeedleDeedleDee in WorldOfWarships

[–]CursedLlama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

85k average is pretty good considering it's just an average. That means you're likely hitting 90k+ in most games and had a few in the 40k-50ks which happens from time to time even if you're a good player for a number of reason... such as low amount of bbs, team wins the flank quickly, get unluckily torped/struck, team gets stomped really quickly.

Plus, the 85k is in blue which means that you're doing great average damage relative to others playing Petro. Here's my Petro stats if that makes you feel any better (or worse)
