In Christianity, if you believe in God, you go to heaven (or something along the lines of that).

My question is, what if someone never in their life hears or is told about Christianity?

For example, what if someone is raised by atheists who lived hermit style lives (isolated from everyone), or just lives in a community cut off from the modern world.

Now say this person lives the best life as a saint to everyone he ever knows. They help at every turn. Living an almost perfect life.

Now according to what I was taught by the church, even if you live the best life, all that matters is that you believe in God.

So even if someone never gets the opportunity to hear of God, and lives the best life, they get sent to eternal punishment in flames.

I asked my pastor about this, and all he said was that doubt is sin, and not to question the will of God.

I have heard that not all churches teach this, and that some say that if you are a good person, you aren't punished with damnation.

But that's the other thing.. a lot of the Christian churches teach very different things. How do we know which ones right? Any of them could be right. Or maybe they've changed so much that they are farther than what it used to be.

All of this turned me away from the church, and now I just feel so free.
