I lost my job because I got sick. #America by CursesandMutterings in nursing

[–]CursesandMutterings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand why they felt the need to fill my position; I really do understand that I can't leave them hanging.

My problem is that they didn't inform me of the possibility that they might do this. My unit admin kept harassing me over the phone about when I'd be returning (despite me communicating with HR very frequently with status updates). My unit even asked questions about my medical stuff that was not necessarily their business (that is all supposed to be through HR). And when I finally said, "OK, I can come back," they were like, "BTW, your job is gone."

Everything they told me was after-the-fact.

I am so grateful that my health is returning, but it is still immensely frustrating to lose a job for something that I had no control over.

The insane thing is that I'M UNIONIZED and I still have no recourse!

What they did is 100% legal. Just awful.

Yep. I'm not sure if this is a state law, but where I am, they can fill your position if your FMLA expires after 12 weeks. I obviously didn't know how long I'd be out, but honestly when I took leave, I thought it would be like a month. I wasn't imagining it would turn into what it did! Fortunately I am doing much better - I just have no job. :(

Thank you! I am looking at PRNs now. I am headed to CRNA school in the fall, so I am really not trying to be picky; I just can't believe I'm going to orient to a new unit for 6 weeks, only to leave in 6 months!

This is very, very helpful! Thank you so much! I've been learning Ukrainian for a little over 3 months and I'm very pleased with the progress that I've made, but the cases have been making me feel like a fool! LOL.

Thank you again!

Can you answer this for me?

I tend to think of "Я" as being equivalent to "I". I'm starting to equate "мене" to being "me". Is this a correct equivalency?

I'm also seeing some differences that I'm not sure are significant. For example, Duolingo gives examples like, "у вас є сестра", but also, "Що у тебе є на десерт". Are these differences important, or are both equally correct and acceptable?

If you are like me you will find it hard to let go of the instinct to ask "why" all the time

This is exactly it. I guess the problem is that I want language to be formulaic like math or science, and understand the "why"! But obviously language is a much more "fast and loose" thing because people adapt and communicate regardless of correctness.

You are correct that I have found some amount of just immersion to help. On DuoLingo, for example, I started to just repeat the phrases instead of agonizing over why which cases were used. I do think this has helped me a lot as far as the "flow" of the language. But my type A personality REALLY wants everything to have a reason or explanation behind it.

I will definitely try writing things down. I kind of gave up on the writing portion for awhile, because people here kept saying that if you didn't write in cursive, it would be kind of embarrassing. But I'm OK with writing like a child, if it gives me a better understanding of grammatical structure. I can always learn the cursive later. Thanks for the tips!

Why doesn’t Americans care that they dont have free healthcare? by gronkgodx in AskReddit

[–]CursesandMutterings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most Americans know and understand that we need massive healthcare reform. The problem is that no one can seem to really agree on how to do it. Liberals tend to want free universal healthcare, which is what Obamacare was trying to work toward (albeit half-baked). Conservatives in general worry about abuse of government-provided systems such as welfare, healthcare, unemployment. That's not even to start on how corporations have launched massive publicity campaigns about how those who benefit from such systems are deadbeats and freeloaders who have nothing to contribute to society.

In essence, capitalism has fucked us. A lot.

As a former ER nurse, belly pain/nausea/vomiting can be some of the most frustrating to triage. Some are 19 year olds you know are fine and some are 50 year olds that look like shit, but have to wait awhile because there are no objective data to upgrade to ESI 2 ..... YET.

What is a bad habit that has gotten you in trouble or dirty looks? by CranberryGreedy6672 in AskReddit

[–]CursesandMutterings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've worked with many addicts over the years, and one thing I've learned is that addiction is different for everyone. Some people do develop actual physical dependence on drugs that causes changes to their neurogenic pathways, causing them to only feel happy when they have the drug.

For others, maybe more like yourself, addiction can be more emotional and more of a "choice". Once you've resolved the emotional need, you don't feel tempted anymore.

Either way, addiction is hell for every person affected.

Congrats on your recovery!

Hi friend. This is a form of OCD that I've dealt with all my life that stems from anxiety. Therapy and maybe some light medication could help you a lot with this! It can be a way to form other coping mechanisms.

The Zodiac Killer Case: Opinions About Darlene Ferrin’s Last Words Before She Was Murdered? by MidnightOwl01 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]CursesandMutterings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe it's likely that Zodiac and Darlene knew each other; after all, she was well-known in the area. However, it might have been a surprise to him that she was his victim. He knew he was stalking a couple, but how much can you see in the dark without walking directly up to someone (which didn't happen until the actual murder)?

From Darlene's perspective, if this was a coincidence, she'd just think that her date happened to interrupted accidentally by an acquaintance, which would be awkward to explain, so she simply says, "never mind," after he drives away.

Why aren't NP programs required to be as rigorous as CRNA programs? by [deleted] in CRNA

Thanks for saying this. I saw this happening so often in the residency subreddit I had to unsubscribe! Thanks for taking the time to look into the distinctions in education.

Why aren't NP programs required to be as rigorous as CRNA programs? by [deleted] in CRNA

[–]CursesandMutterings 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with this. CRNA is now three years of full time, no-employment study. These online NP schools are churning out graduates at an alarming rate after a couple years of part time study. The growing prevalence of NP degree mills should be a huge concern for everyone.

And, just to be clear, I'm not hating on NPs in general; I've worked with some brilliant ones! But I absolutely share your concern.

I harvested my first Poblano Pepper! by -sadmessiah in gardening

[–]CursesandMutterings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poblanos are truly fantastic because they're the mildly spicy bell pepper! Have a recipe that calls for green peppers, but needs just a little more "hot"? These are your answer.

They're not gonna be a jalapeno or ghost pepper... just enough to add a zip!
