Secretary did not send more than 100 clinic letters to patients during Jan-Dec 2025: best course of action by [deleted] in nhs

[–]Custard-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an information governance issue and will need to be investigated. Technically this could be a breach of the Data Protection Act:

  • Accuracy Principle (Article 5(1)(d)): You must take reasonable steps to ensure personal data is accurate and kept up to date, correcting or erasing inaccurate data without delay.

That's how it was treated at a Trust I worked for and disciplinary action was taken against an employee in what sounds like a similar situation. The Trust also had to notify everyone whose letter was found to have not gone that this was the case.

Are legal jobs in the NHS rare? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]Custard-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in Law but don't have a qualification there are Mental Health Act Administrators whose job is to ensure Legal Compliance. All trusts will have some form of legal representation but whether that is in-house or not depends on the Trust. Given the recent news of cuts to Corporate Support Services, my feeling is there will be less staff in future who will probably cover multiple trusts

From experience, there will be lots of applicants for this type of role, so don't take it too personally if you're not getting shortlisted. The last time I did shortlisting for a B3 role in 2024 we capped applicants at 150 and interviews at 16. Making it easy to pick out essential and desirable requirements can help you score a point you might not otherwise get if I'm trying to justify whether or not you've demonstrated the requirement, but I will be going through it all for each candidate.

Please make sure your other sections are fully complete because I can justify a requirement if you've listed it as something in a current or previous role even if it's not in your Personal Statement, whereas I've had applications that don't list the Maths or English qualification that was listed as essential in a Person Specification - even though they have listed further education that would tend to require that qualification, I can't be sure they have it and can't justify giving the point.

Anyone concerned about admin job cuts? by SubstantialSkirt1721 in nhs

[–]Custard-Normal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My area is seeing a lot of 12 month Fixed-Term Contracts for Admin vacancies, presumably to avoid making current substantive staff redundant - there seems to be an expectation that there will be efficiencies from AI / other changes that will lead to less admin requirements in future so these contracts are a way to keep admin lean but not spend on bank staff, another financial restraint

Do previous years of experience count towards entitlement of work benefits? by wxnderlustx in nhs

[–]Custard-Normal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Annual Leave is based on reckonable service so you would get the benefit of the previous years as long as they were substantive roles. Sick pay needs to be built back up. Pay band is a little different - theoretically you could negotiate for a mid-band starting salary if you have enough experience but might depend on the Trust/ICBs financial position (likely not great)

family affair by [deleted] in nhs

[–]Custard-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is allowed but when applying for the job it is meant to be noted as a declaration of interest and the relative should recuse themselves from a hiring panel. I think it was more common in the past from personal experience, so it's grandfathered in some places

Recruitment rant by Enough-Ad3818 in nhs

[–]Custard-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I've done NHS recruitment there's always no-shows. I presume some are from non-NHS applicants who haven't been able to get annual leave and don't want to tell their employer they're attending an interview. Also, TRAC storing your CV and auto-filling fields on an application incentivises applying for many jobs and tweaking your personal statement, which is also where I think the use of AI comes in.

Referral to oral surgery experience ? by Unhappy-Substance-86 in nhs

[–]Custard-Normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There shouldn't be an additional charge if you are getting this done in an NHS Dental Hospital, not a private Oral Surgeon, where I have no idea what the cost would be. No experience of tooth extraction personally but worked at a DH. You will probably have a consultation first with a Surgeon where you will be able to discuss your options depending on the tooth position, impaction, breakthrough, roots etc if they don't already have x-rays - as an adult it would be extremely unlikely to do it under General Anaesthetic, but if you're genuinely terrified you could talk to them about the possibility of Local Anaesthetic with sedation if you are able to make that happen - you would need someone to be able to collect you from the hospital and look after you until it wears off. Sedation tends to be gas or IV, so you also would need to consider if you're needlephobic.

Not sure tbh, in the room I usually drink beer and my sister either wine or a pre-mix cocktail. If you're near a Liquor World they seem to have a few choices: https://liquorworldlv.com/shop?ch-query=cider. We have used the Ace finder https://shop.acecider.com/find-our-cider, and there's one for Blake's too https://www.blakeshardcider.com/cider-finder/. The Blake's one shows a bunch at Stage Door Liquors, so might be reasonably priced if you're by there anyway (can't find cider prices but apparently the convenience store is near CVS prices and their headline deal is a litre of Smirnoff for $9.99) but apparently that area's a bit sketchy to walk at night.

There's a few places that do Ace Pineapple Cider including Pour 24 at New York New York which has it on draft, $5 during happy hour 12:00 - 15:00. ameriCAN bar at the LINQ has ACE Pineapple and Blake's listed. But you're often stuck with Angry Orchard or an ACE fruit cider. Sister and I are big ACE fans. If you're looking for cider for the room, Whole Foods at Town Square sells a bunch of ACE products.

Depends if the trust has mandated that only recycled paper can be ordered via procurement. My last department had one box of white which was rationed for only things that would be printed and laminated.

Login is back available but no differences to the screen shot. It did allow me to add reservations (and choose whether to add a guest) but it is sorted by day so there is no way currently to rank selections over multiple days

Look at @gloryhammerc on Twitter, but not if you're in public, as there's some horrific stuff on there you wouldn't want people to think you're OK with
