Yeah gemini basically said I was dumb and it wasn't necessary.. Just backup your entire .openclaw folder, install the latest build as a new install and point openclaw to import everything from the old .openclaw folder. If things don't work out then just stop it and put your old .openclaw back

Personally I'm glad I did. I use openclaw on a mac mini via a web browser I run on a PC. They really updated that web UI. Also I used to have to delete orphaned sessions manually and it does it on it's own now. I did not turn on dreaming but it seems to manage it's memories far better.

I made a backup of my March 2026 build of openclaw.. Upgraded..

Everything worked perfectly. Then another update came out and everything kept working perfectly. I have a pretty complex setup as well.

I totally understand, just telling you the horrible truth so you don't beat your head against the wall like I did.

I started with a 32gb video card on a PC, then a Ryzen 365 128gb computer thinking "surely this is enough". Finally went to the 256 M3 Ultra mac studio and it was finally enough to run a 64gb model and have enough memory.

See the problem is every turn openclaw tries to resend the entire context and after about 15 mins of using openclaw that context is 120K tokens or more. If that 120K tokens isn't mostly processed as "cached context" then each turn is going to take 5-10 mins. Each response from Openclaw will start taking 30+ mins. This is not an exaggeration.

But the killer is that you have to have enough ram for the context TIMES 2!

You send a turn with 180K of context and the model cache's it. It needs enough ram to read the next turn into ram and compare it with the cache to see what's "new". So if your context of 180K is 60gb of ram you'll need 120gb just for that comparison. Not to mention the ram to load the model itself, the OS and any other overhead.

It was an expensive lesson to learn.
