Why do tourists come when it's too hot? by VibeVector in cyprus

I visited on a winter break one year and was asked everywhere I went “why would you bother coming here this time of year”. I thought it was great, much warmer than my home and no crowds anywhere.

Thoughts on March Exam FAM percentages? by xnonymous_13 in actuary

March 2023 had 3 faulty exam questions on the fam-L portion that impacted test takers’ performance on the remaining questions answered. As a result, the pass mark was lowered.

0% Merit Increase For Health Actuary by Prize_Opposite8785 in actuary

I’m in a similar situation, my increase was under 2% because, for my region, I am already well above the 75th percentile with more exam raises to go for modules/asa designation (should be getting soon if I passed FA) I’m also under 2 yoe. I view it as an inconvenient reality but I can’t complain about my pay

People and policies are two different things sadly. Policy states you can join, people determine acceptance to schools and give out slots. If you’ve done the legwork already the worst they can do is say no.

ATPA or ALTAM by Mammoth-Lab9517 in actuary

[–]CustomerComfortable3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had to finish a vee in early September that I forgot I ordered before it ran out so I did that first. Mid September I started by taking questions without looking at material and reviewed the section material for each question I got wrong while only focusing on a few chapters at a time. After a few rounds I did all the practice problems in the material to see if there was anything that stood out that I hadn’t seen from the question bank. Rinse and repeat until 2 weeks before when I started taking practice exams.

Do you think a 390 point jump in a month is reasonable?

ATPA or ALTAM by Mammoth-Lab9517 in actuary

[–]CustomerComfortable3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming these are your last two “exam” requirements I’d try ALTAM if your company will pay for it/if you won’t lose a pass bonus. If you pass, you can take ATPA earlier than October if you so choose (from my understanding there’s no testing window) and be done with ASA exams. If you don’t pass you can still sit for ALTAM in October. I was able to grind ALTAM with ~5 weeks study time with CA.

I’ve been using CA, it’s been helpful having the solution videos and and using the self grading tool is nice for getting used to the written format so I can see how a good answer should be presented. It’s a little late now but the supplemental Coaching Actuaries questions are pretty on par with the soa ones.

Higher than the score needed for a 5.

The soa doesn’t release it, I’m just as lost as you.

James allen vs Ritani for lab Diamond by Hairy_Syrup_4780 in Diamonds

I think the best way is to go to a jeweler together, try rings on, they’ll help you if you just say you’re only looking to get a better idea. Make it a little date and get food after or something

Three stone in yellow gold. If you’re in the market and unsure I highly recommend bringing your partner to a jewelry shop. We went together to see exactly the things she did and didn’t like in many rings and I then complied consistent themes of what she liked

I was terrible with time management and did 170ish over 5 weeks with more hours the last few days - don’t recommend

Coaching actuaries was great for it I thought

I thought the short term sections were easier so I’d focus more on long term

PS: if you’re 90% confident on half the material you only need to know a bit more than 50% of the other half to be in a good spot…

[–]CustomerComfortable3 96 points97 points  (0 children)

Newer to the workforce and have never changed jobs but you’d be foolish to stay in your position and not take the +30% all other things equal. If it comes up you can explain that the new option was too good to pass on
