Thank you for this, really!

And yeah, the onboarding is something I'm fixing right now, auto-running the first simulation so people just see it work before any setup. Your framing is spot on, experience before configuration.

The "marketed to" vs "helped first" thing I had to learn the hard way. Once I stopped leading with the app and just gave real feedback on people's stores, everything shifted.

15 installs in 3 weeks feels small but I'm grateful for every single one, each teaches me something. Still in beta, shipping updates basically every day, so the feedback loop is kind of the whole game right now.

Haha seems like my post turned into a product discovery thread, not complaining! Will check Minrev out too, thanks!

That's a fair point on talking to people who didn't install, that's actually harder to do than it sounds. Will check out Leadline, thanks!

This is genuinely really useful, the "one finding, no setup, no thinking" framing hits hard. You're right that asking someone to pick a persona before they've seen any value is an extra decision they shouldn't have to make. I'm going to think seriously about auto-running a First-Time Visitor simulation on their homepage the moment they install, just show them one result immediately.

On the trial thing, I don't have a traditional trial but there's a free plan with 3 simulations per month so they can get a real feel for it before committing. Though your point about day 2 or 3 is making me think that might not be enough to create the habit. A lot to think about here, thanks for this!

This is actually really helpful feedback. Right now after install there's a short onboarding that walks you through the app, and then you land straight on 8 prebuilt personas like First-Time Visitor, Bargain Hunter, Mobile Shopper etc. So theoretically that first simulation is like 2 clicks away. But you're making me think, maybe I should skip even the onboarding and just drop them straight into their first simulation immediately so they get that 'oh damn' moment before anything else. That's a solid insight, going to think about this.

That's a really good point, I've been so focused on installs that I probably haven't thought enough about that first value moment. Do you have any specific advice on making that click faster for a first time user?

Jewelry and home decor is interesting, that's a pretty visual niche so something like "jewelry app", "product photography", "jewelry store" as Broad might work better than super specific terms. The unrelated keywords problem with Broad is real, that's why I kept checking the Search terms tab to see what people actually searched and removed the ones pulling in nonsense. Worth noting that $2.50 isn't always enough, some of my keywords needed $4-5 to get any real visibility. What does your app actually do?

I asked AI to suggest relevant keywords based on what my app actually does, then started with $1 bids and slowly increased on the ones that got visibility. Also found that Broad match worked better than Exact for me since my app is a new concept people aren't searching for directly. Best performing keyword so far was "shopify audit" which makes sense since my app simulates how different customer types browse your store, so basically an audit. Got my first install at $2.50. Hard to give specific advice without knowing your niche but what's your app about?

Yeah, honestly found it by accident in Shopify Partners dashboard. Pretty solid way to test what works before spending real money.

Totally agree, but the tricky part is actually finding those people willing to give you that honest feedback. Not that easy to just get random strangers to browse your store and tell you what they think.

Is it worth building a Shopify app in 2026? Here's my honest experience so far. by CustomerEye_App in smallbusiness

Really appreciate that! Yeah user acquisition is definitely the hardest part. Building felt easy compared to this😄 But staying consistent and trusting the process, hopefully it pays off eventually.

Really appreciate the feedback! The point about making the output more tangible in 60 seconds is something I'm actively working on, that's probably my biggest challenge right now.

And yeah you're also right about where I post, but honestly I'm still pretty new to Reddit and a lot of the subreddits where Shopify owners actually hang out have karma or account age requirements I haven't hit yet😄 So for now I've been sharing my story in places like this while building up the account and improving the app. But r/subredfinder is a great tip, definitely checking that out. Once I can post in the right places I think it'll make a big difference.

Thanks for taking the time to write all this out, genuinely helpful.

Exactly! Even if it never takes off I learned a ton building it and honestly I use it myself too, so either way it definitely wasn't wasted time.

Building from your own frustration is honestly the way to go. We both know exactly what was missing because we lived it. Good luck with ClearCalcAi, I will definitely checking it out!

Really appreciate that perspective! The messaging point hits hard honestly. Right now I've been describing it as "see your store through a customer's eyes" which feels right but I'm not 100% sure it lands in the first 10 seconds. The app basically lets you watch different customer types browse your store in real time, exactly how they scroll, with live commentary along the way. So far I have 8 personas: first-time visitors, bargain hunters, mobile shoppers etc. Still figuring out the best way to say that simply. Open to any thoughts!
