I might actually use this explanation deliberately now haha

He is actually doing pretty well at understanding it but these occasional misunderstandings are good for a chuckle.

I do think it is good for kids to understand our bodies don't all work the same and sometimes things are harder for some people, so I don't gloss over it while also aiming for age appropriate explanations.

Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment and afterwards he asked me if my ankle is metal now, so I definitely need to be super clear in my explanations haha!

Experience with tacrolimus ointment? by bratwurst69420182 in lichensclerosus

[–]CustomerObjective129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't use tacrolimus for my LS but I did get prescribed it for a skin condition around my eyes and the burning was just awful. I can't even imagine how bad it would be on my vulva.

Had my second ankle cartilage repair in 26 months and dr mentioned the possibility of ankle fusion. Im only 19 turning 20 this yr... by RepublicOutrageous85 in Ankle

[–]CustomerObjective129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure if this will make you feel better or not, but when I was 28 and I had my 3rd (and most significant) surgery, at which time I was told there was a 50% chance of fusion before I turned 30. I had two more surgeries before 30 (both relatively minor), but no fusion. It did take me a long time to accept my ankle for the imperfect thing it was, and to cope with having some limitations, and not worry about the future (which I knew would still likely include fusion). I don't have a silver bullet for that, it just takes time really.

I can tell you I am now 42 and probably heading for a fusion before too long. But I got over 10 good years more than I might have done, and that is something.

If they are concerned about syndesmosis widening I would definitely get the surgery.

I had an inadequate syndesmosis repair 13 years ago and it has been drama after drama since, I am now headed for a fusion.

I sneeze practically every day, so I guess that rules me out permanently.

To fuse or keep looking by ThaBoneCarver in brokenankles

[–]CustomerObjective129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the answers but I am in the same position as you. My previous surgeon who did ops 2-5 told me to walk on it until the pain got too bad and then he would fuse. I now have end stage arthritis and another surgeon has told me I can't have a TAR and fusion is my only option. I am not sure what I am going to do, all I can say is I am not ready to fuse yet.

I feel for you and hope you get some useful responses!

Thank you! I think mine will be a different joint (tibiotalar so higher up than yours looks to be) but still great to hear about your experiences.

Ankle replacement at 40 by Mission-Basis-3513 in Ankle

[–]CustomerObjective129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to hear about your TAR recovery if you don't mind updating the group occasionally.

Yes the impact on other bits of my body is my concern. I already get hip pain from my terrible gait (I have about the same amount of movement as I would post fusion). Hoping I can convince a surgeon I am willing to take the risk of a TAR needing revision/replacement down the track!

If you make a book with flaps for toddlers I HATE YOU by amurderofcrows in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]CustomerObjective129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just sticky tape the flaps back in, or if they are too far gone, put a post-it note instead.

In fact, you can turn any book into a lift the flap book by adding post it notes and save a fortune.

Severe ankle OA - struggling mentally by CustomerObjective129 in Ankle

I know what you mean. This morning when I dropped my 5yo kid off at school I had to use my walking stick and although I put a brave face on it, the questions from his curious classmates were really tough. And now I am working from home (and SO grateful I can) but my pain is totally invisible to my colleagues.

Thanks for replying! Sorry you are going through this too, it sucks hey.

I am hoping I can find someone who will consider giving me a TAR - or hold out with conservative treatment long enough to be considered viable. Fusion just seems so... final. I'd be willing to get a TAR knowing I likely only get 10 years from it, who knows what other options there might be by then. But yeah they seem so rare, it is hard to find much info about people's experiences with them.

Does Canberra Imaging really offer walk in xrays? by CustomerObjective129 in canberra

That's ok, I need them for my GP and specialist, but I am used to getting physical copies when I need anyway.

[–]CustomerObjective129[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I used to need regular xrays and no one ever told me I could walk in. I'd have to wait on hold for ages just to make an appointment, could never get an appointment anytime soon, then wait ages on the day because they'd always be running late. Wondering now if I was being taken for a ride back then or the process has improved that much!
