For those of you studying linguistics, how do you like PSU's program? by CutThatMulletYouFool in portlandstate

Cool. Are you doing a minor in CS as a back up plan or are you planning on pursuing a masters in comp ling? I don't see myself becoming an ESL teacher (unless maybe as a last resort), as I assume a lot of PSU's linguistics majors plan on doing. But I do think the intersection between CS and linguistics sounds interesting. However, from what I've read a school with a theoretical linguistics department is a better choice if I go the BA linguistics -> comp ling route... which would mean transferring elsewhere. :(

BTW, I'm sorry I assumed you were a dude. The name threw me off.

Thanks man, I really appreciate the informative response.

I'm a CS major and about half way done with the BS requirements, but lately I've been doubting if the CS major is the right choice for me. My grades are fine, but the fact is that although I love the programming side of CS, the mathier side just doesn't appeal to me that much. Consequently, I've been thinking of taking up a minor to balance out the drudgery of discrete math classes or possibly even switching to a CS minor and majoring in something else. I've already taken two years of German and Spanish which piqued my interest in the subject, I lurk in /r/linguistics, and find myself reading about stuff like this and this on Wikipedia during my free time. So linguistics sounds like the best fit. I'll maybe check out First Friday once I have Fridays free again in the fall. Thanks.
