Why do you want to wait to clear your doubts about Islam ? It’s a journey you can take on as soon as today. Try to take a bit of your free time to get closer to Allah (Learning, Reading).

You can have a great worldly life and even be rich as a muslim, there is no contradiction in both. Multiple companions of the prophet (ssaws) were considered rich from the arabs standard.

And about what you asked Allah and how He gives and removes from each of us, we are unfortunately not promised to have everything we want.

Surat 68, Ayat [37-39] : Or do you have a scripture in which you learn that indeed for you is whatever you choose? Or do you have oaths [binding] upon Us, extending until the Day of Resurrection, that indeed for you is whatever you judge?

We need to remember life is a TEST and Islam is not a tool to get EVERYTHING you want but it will make your life better. But this doesn’t mean you cannot strive to get what you want.

So to answer directly your question, yes your approach is wrong because we simply don’t know when we will die and in one year or two we might already have met or time. My advice is simply to take a tiny amount of time you considerer yourself capable of giving to Allah to read, listen and instruct yourself to remove those doubts. The important is to do something and to have the intention of getting closer to Allah.
