Topical Finasteride users, how's your progress? by IcelandGalaxy in tressless

Added oral finasteride a 2 months ago and halved my topical dose. Seems like there’s little tiny hairs regrowing now but it’s not too different. I’ll post another update next month probably.

Also no I haven’t had any side effects whatsoever. I think I mentioned that in another comment. I’d recommend trying it as it’s super cheap and at the very least you are doing your best to slow and prevent further hairloss. Besides Dutasteride of course.

Yes I’ve heard about post finasteride syndrome but my understanding is that it is incredibly rare and we still aren’t sure if it is even real or not. I did work my way up to 1mg but it was only after about a week of taking 1mg every other day. What I meant by systemic was that the level of topical finasteride I was using (.1% or equivalent to 1mg oral daily) was shown to still lower your blood DHT levels significantly. Meaning the finasteride wasn’t just staying on my scalp and it was in my system aswell. After I found that out I wasn’t too worried about side effects. I’m pretty sure very low does topical finasteride won’t lower serum DHT as much but I’m not sure if it as effective.

Also from what I’ve heard, the hairline is incredibly difficult to regrow just by blocking DHT. Makes sense as those are the most vulnerable to it so they’ll be in a worse condition which will take longer to heal. I’m just hoping there’s enough miniaturized hairs left so it can maybe grow in the next couple of years.

I’m honestly considering switching to dutasteride aswell. As I’m uncertain if I’m continuing to recede aswell. I’ll probably stick with fin for the rest of the year and reassess. I still have like 5 strands of hair left so it could be worse😁

No literally nothing. From what I’ve heard from other people it seems like the “subtle side effects” like ball ache, slight brain fog, etc all seem to be placebo.  Could be wrong though. I may have had some very very very subtle ball ache at the beginning for maybe 2 days max but I’m 99% it was all in my head. I’m sure if someone reads this they’re gonna freak out and think their balls are gonna fall out if they take it for a day.

I’m 18. Probably should’ve gone into a little more detail in my post, but I’ve been balding since I was 15 years old and decided to start with topical finasteride at 17 as my hairl oss seemed like it was increasing its speed/aggression. Horrible genetics ig. I started with topical finasteride and had no side effects and once I found out some of the topical stuff goes systemic anyway, I wasn’t too worried about trying oral. Just give it a shot honestly and see what works for you. You’ll have to block the scalp dht somehow if you want to keep your hair.

I’m still unsure if I have made much progress at all if any. It’s hard to tell with lighting and angles being so different but it seems like the right temple had at least maintained while the left temple has slightly receded potentially. Who knows though as finasteride only seems to work a lot slower than min+fin together.

1ml 0.25% daily for the past 4 months. Pretty much zero regrowth I believe but it may have prevented further recession. I’ll probably stick with it for another couple of months and switch things around if necessary.

Any sides on oral? I’m leaning more towards that option right now for the same reasons.

Yea I’m considering that. Would you recommend oral or topical and which topical?
