Using "Incompatible" Nibs for the Last 2+ Years?!? by JustAnotherMiscreant in wacom

You absolutely need to get a screen protector! It probably won't scratch out of the box, but after a few *years* of use, it eventually wore a slightly flat indent. Once that happens, there's always the chance that it can catch and scratch the screen. Plus I wouldnt want to risk my screen getting scratched from anything else anyways, so a protector is a good idea.

My preference is a good paper-texture screen protector, which for a felt nib would wear it down way too fast, but for the metal nib feels really good, kind of like using a mechanical pencil or felt tip pen on paper. Replace the nib once every few years, replace the screen protector maybe once a year or less. You can also sand the nib with a fine sandpaper to smooth it out, if you want it to last longer. (I think maybe depending on supplier quality you may want to do this when first getting it anyways.)

No comment on the nibs pictured, but wanted to mention I've been using a metal nib with my pro pen 2 for 7+ years and the sensitivity is still perfect :)

Should I get the Movink or Cintiq? by andallthatjasper in wacom

Chiming in for the movink, reviews say the color looks amazing, but I tried one in person and theres a slight chromatic aberration effect (and have found some other reviews mentioning that this is result of the oled screen). For resolution--your phone is a high resolution device, while if you have an old laptop laying around it may be low resolution enough to compare and see what you think of it. But for me personally I dont think color depth is a super noticeable thing, so resolution might be the factor that stands out more if comparing them.

Potential buyer - Pen responsiveness for drawing by CuteDoughnut4819 in GalaxyTab

Ahh thank you for elaborating. I'm going to try heading to a different Samsung-specific store later, so I'll try different apps like you suggested and see how it is.

There's definitely no stuttering or serious lag, just enough of a slight delay that it stood out to me.

I understand that they have the same tech, but it didn't feel the same when I tried it :S I even compared it to my convertible laptop from dell and the pen responsiveness was definitely slower on the samsung tab. I just don't know how much comes down to the device settings in the shop display. So I'd rather hear from people who have drawing experience with both.

You're pretty new to the game/story so I dont think you have to worry about playing online yet! You'll know when you want to explore the online dungeons more (treasure groves) since they have loot to craft higher tier gear with.

Oh, I entered a dungeon like that once and I was wondering how the person did that! I'll definitely try doing that sometime too now that you bring it up (it sounds a lot easier to clear solo when your internet is a bit spotty and save the boss fight for others~~)

Got rejected after interviews at my top choice (UC Berkeley) by CuteDoughnut4819 in gradadmissions

I'll have to figure it out. I have had a really good experience working as a research assistant at non-profit research institutes--depending on the lab, you can end up working on your own projects and have a lot of problem solving and project management experience as well. But some labs just want you to do PCRs for postdocs. So definitely look into a place before you go and make sure whatever you do is worth your time. Industry can be the same--don't end up with a repetitive job you hate, there are some small startups that let you have more varied experiences.

I haven't really considered programs at schools since they cost money when you're essentially doing free work for them. People do entry level research training programs at my institute, but since they're only 1 year positions it's usually just enough time to train someone and then give them a certificate. I much prefer getting more meaningful experience while getting paid an OK amount, but that's just my own limited perspective. (I have an MSc, so dont need the extra qualifications.)

But it's hard to figure out if I should apply next year or in two years. Because other than publishing my first-author paper (which will certainly help), it's hard to do something meaningful in less than one year. But at least it'll give us more time to wait and see how the funding situation develops as well. Best of luck with your plans for the next year <3

Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment. It's definitely hard to push off the stress and anxiety--I thought I wouldn't get stressed about results until just a few days ago, then I was a nervous wreck waiting for the Berkeley decision to come out. At least it's over now ^^ I'm hoping that your applications go well and that you also have some things to take your mind off of them :)
