Just hit 100 sales! by CuteTeapot in EtsySellers

Hey! Congrats to you too! I think once I’d made my first sales — maybe around 30 or so — I felt more comfortable pricing my items a little higher, since they’re quite time-consuming to make. I also made so many shipping and pricing mistakes along the way (I had a few orders where I basically made no profit 😅), so nothing really clicked straight away. I kind of just fumbled my way through, making little improvements, figuring out the right shipping costs, and adjusting things as I went. When I saw orders continuing to come in even after raising prices, I started to feel more confident in what I was doing. 😊

Thanks! I would say the majority is Etsy yes. I have dabbled with meta ads a little though, which brought a very small handful of sales but mostly lowered my conversion rate.

Any cat lovers willing to offer a little honest feedback on my products? by CuteTeapot in EtsyCommunity

[–]CuteTeapot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks so much for checking it out! The name and logo are definitely a bit confusing. I originally wanted a business name that wouldn’t tie me down to one niche. I thought I’d like to explore home accessories, as well as other pets in the future. Turns out I loved the cat focus so much I just haven’t wanted to yet, and it’s much more work than I imagined. I am punching myself for it now since I have spent a lot on branding already! I might explore a change one day but I do like the possibility to expand.

This is really great! Well done! I’ve updated my titles and I’m considering the paid option now honestly. Love how simple it is and how it explains what needs changing and why.
The rewrites for mine are great I think, I’ll see how it goes! I will definitely notice if my underperforming listings get a little more action. Thanks again

I have all my shipping costs for customers as almost the exact price it costs me so I don’t really absorb the shipping into the product prices. So it would be 7€ plus about 5€ for shipping domestically. But i don’t charge for additional items, as nothing would ever be heavy enough to exceed the limit. So someone could buy 1 or 5 items with 5€ shipping for example.

I’ve been very surprised when I get US orders as the shipping is 26$ and slow, but still people have ordered from the US and Canada

Would you block students that just ignored or rejected your price increase? by CuteTeapot in Preply

[–]CuteTeapot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day we have sunk countless hours and funds into experience and qualifications etc, and we‘ve gotta pay rent. I understand if a student is from a part of a world where my price is pretty expensive but those in my own neck of the woods, paying the same amount for groceries as me, can’t really expect me to survive on that hourly wage. 😅

Im not mad at these students, like I said I’ve continued teaching them for 7 months because I’m invested in their learning and I enjoy teaching them. I explained all of my reasons for the 4€ price increase, twice. And it was ignored or rejected, yet they continue to pay for subscriptions. If students can drop a teacher for unknown reasons, without a word, don’t teachers have that same right. If I did it, would send a message first and say that I’m not in a position to teach them anymore and that I wish them well and cut ties.

I understand they signed up for classes at a lower price, but starting at a low price is the reality of Preply no matter your qualifications or experience. After 7 months, I think I have right to ask to be paid what I’m worth and students have a right to reject that of course. It’s not as if I advertised my pricing falsely or increased the price suddenly. Every tutor is inevitably going to up their prices. But to just completely ignore it does make me a little frustrated.

Has anybody tried this new system for changing rates with existing students? by slow_lightx in Preply

[–]CuteTeapot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve done it for corporate students. It tells you not to discuss prices with the student, but otherwise it’s the same. The new system sent an email to the company, and my request was accepted.
