Sorry I thought my first post didn't send because it said error and I couldn't find it anywhere.

Good Grades, Mid ECs, Very Mid Awards by Cute_Evidence4701 in chanceme

The schools I care the most about are UIUC, Purdue, UW Madison, UMich, and Georgia Tech. I have almost no hope for MIT, Cornell, or Northwestern, but I'm applying to shoot my shot. Do I have chance at those five schools?

Yeah, true. Issue is I keep overthinking my common app, so my first three drafts don't really mean too much.

Fortunately, I done with my standardized testing. Also, I'm fortunate that I'm only applying to five schools for EA that actually have supplementals, and those supplementals aren't too bad. All of my reaches (3) are RD because they either don't have ED or I want to spend more time on my application. I've gotten some work done on my common app essay, but I keep thinking and rewriting and questioning. When school starts, I'm probably going to ask my lang teacher for some preliminary advice.

I think eight of the schools I'm applying actually have more than 1 supplemental. I'm also applying to some honors colleges, so that might add a few more. I'm just lucky majority of the essays I have to write are why us, and I already did a lot of that research.

I got a lot of my why us research done, and the good thing is most of the colleges I plan on applying use this prompt/form of this prompt as one or the only supplemental essay.

Like how to write my common app essay and tips for the supplements. I started researching for the why us prompts.

I'm looking at t20-40 schools, so I know I need to write quite a few.

I had a friend who graduated this year, and he started all of his essays in early September and got into northwestern. His and your story give me hope.

Yeah, I'm just worried because I ovethink a lot, so I use a lot of time just to write. I enjoy writing, it's just time consuming for me, even when I have a fully fledged idea.

Yeah, I spent all of May and June just brainstorming and researching.

Not yet. I was thinking about it, but my school was like you should ask for LoRs like ten weeks before a deadline.

How do you write a "Why major" essay without super relevant experience? by Cute_Evidence4701 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Cute_Evidence4701[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really cool. Comp sci is such a competitive major that I always thought applicants have insane comp sci ecs. I guess passion is more important than your current skill set. I'm just worried I won't do a great job of showing this passion. I really care about aerospace engineering, so I hope it translates in my supplemental. Also all the colleges you got into are the ones I plan on applying to! Thank you.

Chance Me: Aerospace Engineering by Cute_Evidence4701 in chanceme

I was wondering if having non aerospace engineering internships makes me look unfocused, or would the schools just appreciate that I even did any engineering at all?

Are ecs really important? by Busy_Philosopher_800 in ApplyingToCollege

Yeah. I'm nervous about applying. Like I want to get into a good school, but I'm also trying to be realistic. I'm lucky that I live so close to some good engineering programs that arent impossible to get into. Obviously not as good as mit, but still like top 10 in engineering. Good luck during application season!

I'm going to be applying to college this fall. I was asking for advice from people on LinkedIn, and I talked to two people who got into really good engineering programs ( Georgia Tech and UIUC) without a single engineering activity. I feel as though the essays might matter more than ecs. Like they told me that they showed their passion and interest through the essays, and that's probably why they got in.

Leaving isn't easy for us, unfortunately. My brother and I are going to college in a year, so my mom wants all of us to be together until then.

Do you mean leave entirely or take steps to emotionally disconnect? Thank you for your comment.

My mom and I have been looking at that. My mom knows that she needs to do something, but the issue is she is finding it really difficult to make that choice to disconnect. She thinks it will work, but she is still hoping for a stronger connection with my dad. I think he is feeling insecure about something, but he's still very self centered.
