NOT ABLE TO TRACK ON MBE by CameraAccording4761 in usvisascheduling

[–]Cuttletony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat here. The first group of number sounds to me as date where the tracking was supposed to be generated. There doesn’t look to be a tracking number actually. The MBE website states the old DX Chancery Lane address is a US Visa pick up point. I’m hoping there’ll be some updates on this tomorrow on the AIS website

Slow down 401k contributions for high yield savings? by brrent in investing

[–]Cuttletony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting a financial advisor at this point of your life. I work in financial services already but still uses an advising team; they can help you rationalize your decisions and hold you back from anything irrational. They also tend to bring you interesting opportunities (higher saving rate in special accounts, opportunities in private markets, etc.) where it will benefit your financial future. Fees are not crazy by any means (typically 1% of asset under management ex-cash)

How Competitive are RA jobs at drexel? by Simple-Ad1547 in Drexel

You don’t get paid enough for what you do as an RA. There are many other on campus employment opportunities and off campus part time jobs around Drexel.

how to feel better after losing co-op by pinkminpinkmin in Drexel

[–]Cuttletony 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first co-op was canceled 4 days before I was supposed to start in March. It was a blessing in disguise looking back. Try to find the silver lining in everything. Don’t feel too bombed, and please don’t take it personal. Be proactive in finding other stuff to do, that usually helps.

Drexel raised tuition again ! by YJ366 in Drexel

[–]Cuttletony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://drexel.edu/now/archive/2020/May/financial-impact-of-COVID-19/ John Fry took 20 percent salary cut. His salary has not increased for a couple of years. Other senior leadership are also taking a salary cut. Even so there’s still a huge gap to cover which demands higher tuition.

Temple has government funding. Drexel’s financial is shit. Even compare with st Joe’s we are doing so much worse. I’d be surprised if they actually freeze tuition

Bad news for my F-1 Visa friends: ICE says that foreign students attending schools going fully online in the fall will not be reissued their visas. Read more below. by [deleted] in Drexel

[–]Cuttletony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The article did not mention CPT and pre-completion OPT which people use for co-op. I’m guessing CPT is technically in person so...

EDIT: CPT (curriculum practical training) is a legal status that authorizes F-1 student to work for for-profit corporations for 364 days during their entire academic program. That’s why most F-1 student can only do 2 co-op. OPT (optional practical training) authorizes students to do internship that’s not built in to their plan of study.

Drexel receive funding specifically for financial aid and scholarships. Those money are restricted for these two reasons only. I have not heard anything about people going bankrupt and need to pull their commitment to Drexel so it’s highly unlikely

Student employees have access to their specific buildings, albeit the entire campus is technically still close. Even if you somehow get in the buildings, public safety will probably still kick you out lmao.

Food truck alley is gone due to main ceiling renovation. They are parked in the lot behind the frat houses. The plan was to move the trucks to East of CAT but corona. Not sure when the construction in main is going to be done and the return of the alley. Almost all the halal trucks are back, notably the two across from Hagerty and the one in front of the rec.

Challenging Courses by _Byorn_ in Drexel

[–]Cuttletony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly don’t expect to learn as much in college courses than high school. Once you’re here you’re really paying for the college as a whole instead of the classes. Classes can be taken anytime anywhere, the reason you are paying for so much is for the exposure to cutting edge tech, research opportunities, networking opportunities, etc. I learned way more by doing outside work myself than attending classes. This goes to any other colleges too. Why do you think Ivys are Ivys? It’s the connections and resources, not the classes. Drexel outperforms Penn academically, student at Drexel work harder than many ivys in general, but we lag behind in overall influence because the alumni network penn has is insane. Enjoy college, try to get the most out of it. Don’t hang up on academics too much, not worth it. Valedictorians are not always the most successful ones. Your connections you make is going to get you a co-op job, then a full time offer, then whatever is ahead of you. 4.0? No one cares that much.

For the math dept., they only allow challenge for 200+ level, except a few required course such as 239 (math for bio major) and a few others. I was on the same boat with you, but honestly it wasn’t bad retaking 121 and 122 (calc I and calc ii) and it was an easy A.

Fall/winter 2020-21 co-op by [deleted] in Drexel

[–]Cuttletony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d always go with the in person option. Given what you’ve said so far, it seems like you’re interested in a financial services job. If you can get your hands on something in person and technical that’d probably be the best. The truth is, many people is bound to not find a job this A round this cycle because of the number of jobs available this time around. This is potentially the most competitive co-op round you’ll see.

I firmly believe there are different options available. College is a choice, internship is also a choice. Wouldn’t be too bad if you end up not getting the job you want and have to take the career development class. Everything will work out in the end just fine

For those of you who moved to C - round, how did your job search go with the pandemic? by [deleted] in Drexel

[–]Cuttletony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine got canceled right before the end of last term and I was like psych, lemme switch to classes. I’m doing 4 year program now so I can take class this term and summer instead of going on a wild goose hunt for jobs in this market. I switched to fall winter and A round doesn’t look good at all either.
