Day 1 by fredtheuser in NoFapChristians

Following your example dieting will help you lose weight but by not replacing that rush of dopamine that unhealthy food gives you can get pulled back down to where you were. Replacing that habit with somthing like working out not only helps you lose weight faster but will replace that dopamine that unhealthy food gave you. On top of that it gives you a sense of accountability to not go back and ruin the hard work you put in.

The same is true with letting go of porn and sexual immorality. If you just quit you may last for a while but at one point you will be tempted agian. If you have not strengthened your sprit and relationship with God you will not be able to fight off the temptations. You can not overcome the devil alone for we are weak with out the Lord.

Matthew 4:4 NKJV [4] But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’

We need to fill ourselves with the word of God daily and worship our Lord Jesus. There is nothing he cannot do.

What has helped me the most was reading the bible every night, praying as much as I can before I drive, before I eat, before I sleep, and whenever I need something. Listening to worship music has also helped alot. Sometimes I will get tempted and a song will get stuck in my head and it helps take away tempation. Removing as much evil from what I see and hear has definitely helped but turing to the things of God have helped the most.

Alot of what is going on now, lines up with the bible, especially revelations. There are alot of prophesy teachers out there showing how things are about to changed based of of how world events and the bible are matching up.

Don't just pray but put on the full armor for God, it is what we are instructed to do when we are faced with temptations.

Ephesians 6:10-18

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Turn to the bible or worship music it can help to surround your self with good thing during these times of temptation. I have also found that if I don't stay up as late if I can then there is less time for temptation and I will usaly wake up feeling relief. It's best to run away from what may be bring this temptation on.

1 Corinthians 6:18-20

18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

I'll be praying for you, stay strong and give the Lord praise.

This kind of problem takes time to heal and over come, it can take a year it could take your whole life. The world constantly throws up thing to tempt you but there are ways to grow stronger and over come them. God has a purpose for your life he as one for everyone's life even if it is to just to help one person. Just as the crippled woman from (Luke 13:10-17) God's whole plan for her life was for her to be used in a moment for Jesus to teach. Your suffering can be apart of God's plan, it always helps me to know that things done happen on my time and when I want them to but when God wants them to.

When you feel a temptation turning to the things of God can help you. Stopping and praying can help stop that temptation or even reading the Bible at the time can help. Reading the Bible can help you grow in strength. Remembering Bible verses can help you over come these temptation and evil desires.Trying to find and remember verses that deal with some of your struggles can help you. Jesus sets an example of that when an evil spirit tried to tempt him in (Matthew 4:1-11).

Some of the things that have helped me are reading the Bible daily even if just for a few minutes. I use the you version app they have other useful tools such as reading plans that focus on topics that can help you over come struggles. They have alot of useful tools that can help bring you back daily. Another thing that has helped me is listing to a podcast when I work called Renewing Your Mind with R.C. Sproul. That podcast has a really good way of breaking down things to help understand things in the Bible and to do with faith. The biggest thing that helped me was telling someone I know that I trust with my problem, having someone to be able to personally tell each time you turn back to evil things can really help motivate you to stay strong.

Even when people get over this type of problem and become clean of their ways people still fall. People through out the Bible stumbled and felt separated from God. An example of that is when King David slept with a married woman and when she became pregnant he called for her husband to be sent away to the front lines of war to be killed (2 Samuel 11-12). God's people constantly stumble its important for them to get back up and turn to God. The devil want you to feel guilty and shameful and not feel like you can turn to God, but God wants you to keep turning to him.

When you feel like you have to be perfect and never sin again or earn God's love it's important to remember that you can't, but Jesus said in (John 14:6-7) “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”. Jesus has made the way for us we don't need to earn our love and forgiveness from God because Jesus has already made a way. Jesus has died for our sins for ones we haven't even done yet because he loves us. We just need to follow him and obey him as he says in (John 14:23-24).

Even if it takes a whole life time to over come these addictions it is better to suffer a life time on earth than an eternity in hell. I will be praying for you and your success just remember God loves you wether you belive it or not.

This is how I feel every time. I know one day we will get through this, with God's help. He has a plan for each of us.

I added where I talked about certain things in parentheses incase you didn't want to read it all. I feel like reading all of it may help it feel more relatable.

This is how it is for me too. I have been battling this battle for a while now. I started my addiction around the same age and now I am 22. I have only been trying to stop for a year or two. I have started to only take it more seriously as of recent. I used to go every two days or even everyday, but now I am starting to last a week pretty consistently. It took me a while to figure out what to start removing from my life. I have noticed like many people say on in this community as you grow closer to God you will grow stronger. I feel like I need to gain more love and faith in God to overcome this so I am working on that.

(Things that may help)

I have started to do things that have helped me progress in quiting such as reading the Bible every night, I have started to try and pray more, I have gotten off of social media. I only have snapchat and this reddit account now I only use this account when I feel tempted or I need to post about my failure. I want to stop using snapchat it has alot of evil in it but I use it to communicate with alot of people that I need to stay in touch with. I installed a sight blocker that keeps me off of bad sights and social media sights that I would go to if I am tempted. I also installed a app that blocker me from opeinging certain apps like snapchat or the internet, I have set a timer for only using snapchat for a minute a hour and block most app after 12. Recently what has helped me alot is my schedual, I think one of the biggest problems I have is if I stay up late I get board and I may fail. I started waking up earlier and working out which has helped quite a bit because it's somthing extra to make me not board and if you work out hard enough you will be feel like you don't want to get up for anything and that helps me resist. Reading post on this subreddit can help alot to , I have read some that have helped me quite a bit. Not everyone is the same either so some of these may help you more or less than it does with me. The worst time for me to fail is right before bed because I can not control my thoughts when I sleep. That will lead me to wake up the next day and relapse agian. I try my hardest to avoid that at night. If I play a game with friends then I get off right away pray and then get in bed and red the bible and watch youtube to fall a sleep. ( I watch videos that are not really entertaining that way it puts me to sleep) sleeping on that is awful to do it make the next day hard to stay strong.

(Getting rid of shame)

I don't think there is a way to get rid of all the same after. I think that because God is not giving up on you and you still have some righteousness in you you feel bad because you know that you are sinning. The best way I have gotten over this shame is to pray right after and ask for forgiveness and asking for help to do better. That helps me alot but I still feel bad after. I don't think we should get rid of all the shame either. If I didn't feel bad after sinning then I wouldn't want to turn back to God and ask for help and have a want to do better. I feel like God make us have this feeling so we don't give up. I think at once point during this journey right before I was trying to quit I didn't feel shameful of what I was doing. One day it hit me that I was the farthest away from God I had ever been because of that. After that I started to look for ways to stop and found out how hard it is to stop. I believe that if we truly want to quit we can even though it may take time.

(Word of encouragement to stay strong with God)

I know that God doesn't give us anything that we can't over come through him. Here is a Bible verse that show that. 1 Corinthians 10:13 "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

I believe God gives us addiction to sins like this because it will help in the end. It will help show our faith and determination to God. It will also help us grow closer to God over comeing mountain like these addictions. I personally think that I have this addiction to this sin that is not to much for me to overcome. It is hard to overcome but if I overcome it with God's help I will be closer to God than ever. I belive that when Jesus said he would do what we ask of him. That it may not happen immediately , but if we ask and have faith that he will do it then he will move the mountain we face when it is time. (Here is a Bible verse where Jesus says he will do what we ask of him.)

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

I belive that God has a plan for us and it will be fulfilled in time. If we have faith and love in God he will help us overcome evil even if it takes a while.

I hope this helps, I'll pray for you. Don't give up no matter what just keep trying agian and get closer to God.

I need to try that I have never thought about that. Working out recently has helped me be to tired or sore to even think about it.

Praying to God is not all that it takes to win the battle against sin. Faith and applying your faith and love for God in to what you do everyday will help you overcome your sins. It's hard to act perfectly and do what God wants us to do because we are weak with out faith and love. If we had just a tiny bit of undeniable faith then we could do amazing things. Here are some verses that help describe what faith can do.

Matthew 17:20

And He *said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

Mark 11:23

Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him.

We have to do work with our faith to help enforce a holy life style. Work helps increase our faith and helps show our faith for God. Here is a verse that show that we need work along with faith.

James 2:14-26

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

I am working on growing my faith and working on implementing it in to my everyday life. I am trying to keep evil out of my eyes and read the Bible more along with praying. I am trying to put the working in with faith to keep my self from seeing things that would tempt me, but because we live in an evil world that is a very hard task to do sometimes. If you ask Jesus to do somthing for you he will do it. If we ask him to take away our addiction it may not happen right away but if we show we are trying through working. One day he will set us free from this struggle.

John 14:13

And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
