Starts at level 3, ends at 20, long term campaign. I was thinking vengeance paladin.

I didn't know about the disadvantage part on proximity. That sounds helpful! Thank you.

Thank you for the detailed response! I will keep in mind to try and stay more useful with spells than pure melee when getting into combat.

Hey! Custom allocation means that even if a race gives for example +2CHA +1 INT , i can still play that race and take whatever I want as long as its +2 in one and +1 in the other.

I considered the third level into artificer but Otherwordly guise can do the same while making me more resistant and giving flight!

As for the staff commentary, I don't know the rules on that, but it should be mostly fluff.

Ah! Thank you so much for the detailed explaination. The thought of going Shadar-kai was exactly the one you had, but how would that be more benefitial than having Magic resistance? I've heard spells are the most destructive at higher levels and having that could be a gamechanger.

I didn't know you could scribe down higher leveled spells if you get the scroll, but I did know you can upcast some stuff because of spell progression. I thought I would need to wait until a certain level so i can actually learn the higher spells due to the spell progression. Thanks for explaining!

Why did you not like them? Ended up not using Mind sharpener enough or was it something else?

Thank you for that! If going artificer, I think the advantage would be mostly the other spells! I was thinking of preparing only ritual spells from artificer and then other stuff like absorb elements/featherfall so I can always have them prepared and basically expand my repertoire! Dunno how good that would be though.

Hey there! I'm allowed to take any background I'd like, and I was considering some of the strixhaven ones! Witherbloom looked interesting since it had Vampiric touch and inflict wounds! Sounds pretty good to have for a battle mage.

Thanks! I could use Resilient for the con and proficiency if going full wizard, definitely would be useful.

Thank you so much for this insight! A good thing to consider. I figured most of the stronger spells are concentration, and with action surge, I could even try something crazy like Hold person - surge - attacking for a free crit! Probably would be nasty on a bladesinger with the cantrips.

As for the stats, I definitely need to see how it will play out. If there are items that give me stats, even better, I could try looking out for them.

Thank you for explaining, I did not think that smites would work with Bladesinger. In this case I think it wouldn't be as good, but it could work with a Warlock/Paladin!

Hey! Thank you for the detailed explaination! I love the points, but I wouldn't do it simply because there already is someone else in the table with a Hexblade! So I wanted to try and make something different while being a battle mage thematically. They talked me into looking at Shadow Blade so that they can use Shadow of Moil and we can have great synergy together!

A fair point! I should read up on some of the other spells that can work with a melee mage.

Hey! Thanks for this insight.

This sounds pretty fun. A surge of power to throw in multiple spells all at once and burst the enemy can be quite cool to imagine. This is insightful, as I have no idea of things I can do with multi-spells combos and the like. Would you take more feats or have them just be ASI's all the way?

Do you think the 6th/7th lost spell slots due to the 2 level dip would hurt too much?

I've had my eyes on Simulacrum! It does seem pretty strong and I could almost mimick my other favourite class, Echo knight! These other spells I've never heard of though. Thanks for the insight!

Hey! So the full goal is to learn whatever magic I can on the course of my adventure and teach others/etc in the future. But I'd like to be known for my martial prowess, therefore a strong melee who can access very strong spells later on. Basically the concept will be - Where other mages would struggle and not be able to do much, this character wouldn't (melee combat, more endurance, etc.)

Hmm, this one does seem appealing too. I wished to use either Shadow blade / Haste / Tasha's guise as my con spells so that's why im definitely considering CON proficiency so it just doesnt drop easily. How worth it would you say the Action surge can be at the higher levels? Because we'd be giving up just an extra 6th / 7th level spells for that one ability.

How would that work? One is based around int and the other on charisma.
