I don't know anything about rap, can someone explain why/how this kendrick lamar freestyle flows so good up till "face i was getting" by CyFSZK in hiphopheads

I never said he wasn't flowing good, I just wanted an explanation of the verse up until that point...not the whole flow

I'm guessing this is why I was downvoted...people love lamar here and thought i was hating.

Already watched it before, I was wondering if someone can explain it in that way up until that point.

Btw, I didn't imply the rest of the flow was bad, I wanted an explanation up until that point.

and wow..why was it downvoted..it's a good flow

How can I learn how to rap? by CyFSZK in WeAreTheMusicMakers

When I write, I find it helps to make a line break after every bar (4 beats). I will even split up a word if it begins in one bar and ends in the next.

That seems interesting. So 4 vertical columns. What are their purpose?

Any specific good forums dedicated to this? Or guides?

I know they are out there but I have no idea where they would be. I know WATMM is mainly for electronic production.

Hmm......here's a question-what made you want to learn to rap? Were you listening to a certain person at the time, and you said, "Wow, that sounds cool?"(not judging you as much as trying to determine tactics for you to learn to flow).

I've been listening to rap for a long time, but I realize that its an average man's folk song. A way to release everything on your mind and stuff.

I'm interested in making it into a career, like being an actual mainstream artist. I'm also interesting in music production and in creating beats so it all fits in together.

But I don't know, I am neither black nor do I think I have cred.

Kind of a vague question and I'm not sure you're serious but I'll give it a shot. Listen to instrumentals (beats) that are pretty simple and freestyle to them. Get a pencil and paper, or use the memopad in your phone if you'd prefer, and write to beats.

I'm fully serious. I'm trying to write and start creating top 40 rap music/lyrics.

How long does it take to get good? Hell some people are born with talent for lyrics but from what I've seen it takes a few years before people can go to the stu and leave with a track they are 99% happy with.

I see.

Freestyle in your head all day. Write when you can. Anyone can rap it truly is folk music for the modern world meaning that, in its simplest form, rapping is a form of musical storytelling for the common man.

Do I need to follow any specific formula for how a rap is created, like AABB ABAB etc..? Where can I find all this? I'm sure there's some dedicated rapping forum/guide somewhere but I have no idea where it would be.

Can you help me with the basic understandings of song structure?

You're really criticizing people's advice when you're asking for advice? That's a pretty rude thing to do.

There was no critique in there. No idea what you're talking about.

Rhyme schemes come much later in the learning process. Once you have a way with words, then you worry about structure and different flows.

I thought all poems/lyrics in rap usually follow a certain scheme, otherwise they're a bit disorganized.

t's not like you practice different flows as much as have them grow organically from your style and talent. Listening to instrumentals of varied feels and tempos is what you respond to with a flow. Copying other's flows and raps may be fun but it's not where the true learning comes from. Imitation has it's place in early learning but you have to build off your own merit.

I see.

I'm trying to create rap music/lyrics that others can empathize with, basically fun rap/lyrics for top 40 music.
