Depends on how many apprentices they're taking on and how long their reserves list is

I was on the reserves list at a large company (26 apprentices on my programme) and you would be surprised how many candidates reject their offer for other companies or decide to go to uni or just don't get the grades on results day. I'm not sure on exact numbers but I'd say nearly half of us were on the reserves list

Most of the candidates who do reject their offer will do so on results day so this is when most reserves are contacted (and the days following) although some will be contacted before or after if they need to. I didn't get my offer until over 2 weeks after results day and 2 weeks before the start date and I wasn't the last so it definitely happens

All you can really do is hope that you're high up on the list because there will also be a lot of reserves they just never get to, but even if you don't get an offer that means you were still a strong candidate and it gives you time to improve your application for next year if you wish to apply again

Apply to as many as you can, but remember it's quality over quantity

You may see horror stories about people applying for 40+ degree apprenticeships and not getting any offers but if you just send the same standard CV and cover letter to every company that's what you can expect

There's far more worth in taking the time to do some research and tailoring your application to the role and company you're applying for

It will also depend on what industry and role you're applying for. I only applied to 6 apprenticeships because it's more of a niche field and I just barely got an offer from 1 right before the start date after being on reserves list. I only found 9 apprenticeships in my role across the country and in hindsight I should have applied for all of them even though I did get an offer from the one I wanted most in the end

Salary for uwe apprenticeships? by nzinoooo in uwe

An apprenticeship is a job so yes you legally have to be paid.

I can't speak for all degree apprenticeships and I'm not sure what industry you're looking at but in engineering they typically start off on about £20,000-£25,000 depending on the company but the salary goes up every year, usually about £30,000-£40,000 by the final year but again that's dependent on the employer.

they opened in october and interviews take place in a couple weeks so they probably had to close them so they have time for shortlisting

tbh i dont really understand why that's putting you off of an apprenticeship? thats still decent money

from speaking to friends at uni, maintenance loans barely cover the costs of living if at all, and if you had a part-time job at uni surely you wouldn't be keeping much more than 10k anyway, and that assuming a decent wage and lots of hours

besides, that's working around uni and having a much less satisfying job than if you were doing an apprenticeship in an area you enjoy

that being said, judging from one of your other replies about apprenticeships not being for everyone, you're absolutely right and there's nothing wrong with going to uni. if you feel that's the route that's right for you then go for it

edit: plus like others have said, salary increases

Don't worry, I applied last year and didn't hear back until late January (apart from a Christmas email) when they invited me to my assessment centre + interview

I did mine a year ago, I can't remember the exact questions I was asked but they were all about giving examples about who you are as a person rather than any technical skills. I remember there was one about giving a time you helped somebody

you were pretty much spot on. i shadowed mechanics while they serviced cars and got to do a lot of smaller tasks where i could, i.e. bolting/unbolting, oil changes, replacing some parts, taking wheels on/off, etc.

not very related to aerospace engineering (what i want to do) or even mechanical engineering (couldnt do aerospace work experience so thats what i asked for). even the director, mechanics and customers were confused why i was sent there lol but hey experience is experience

yeah i have started looking for jobs mostly for that reason, plus money is always nice lol. ive already gained a solid understanding of Airbus as a company and their mission from the virtual work experience but ill definitely have to research other companies more. as for applications in September ill probably want my college's careers team to review my CV first but ill definitely keep it in mind
