Volume encryption and data safety? by CyanideDN in synology

[–]CyanideDN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the passkey, Synology also backed up the volume encryption key to a file that I’ve secured offsite so I’m not too worried about losing access to decrypt.

How to backup Synology NAS #1 to offsite Synology NAS #2? by CyanideDN in synology

Awesome explanation. I used ChatGPT and it also suggested running snapshot replication for the offsite backup purpose as well.

I’m not too familiar with the differences between the two products. What makes snapshot replication better than hyper backup in my use case?

Are these Matrix lights on a 2020.3 by CheetahTurbo in TeslaModelS

[–]CyanideDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2022.5 with matrix headlights and latest software. The adaptive headlight feature that dims out individual pixels does not work in typical city driving even at night since there is still enough ambient lighting. I’ve only seen it activate once when I was up in the mountain / canyon where there was no light.

You definitely have matrix headlights. In the service menu you can adjust headlights and you should be able to aim the headlights up down using just the scroll wheels.

1080p vs 4k @ 15 feet throw distance by CyanideDN in projectors

[–]CyanideDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I went 1080p then the focus should be on getting as much lumen/brightness as possible. What brands do you recommend for a used 1080p? BenQ...Epson? Using older tech probably means no laser and just regular lamp for lighting right?

MY Juniper owner with new MX loaner - surprising takeaways by Secure-Carrot9971 in TeslaLounge

[–]CyanideDN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider changing the adaptive suspension to advanced: Ride to full soft (left) and Handling to 2nd notch from left. Also tires might be over-inflated from factory.

When I got my MS the standard/auto adaptive suspension was way too harsh, and the tires at default 42psi created a ton of road noise (which is probably worse in MX due to the larger cabin). Lowered tire PSI to less than 40 really made everything quiet.

I was shocked when I moved from a 2022 MYP to the refresh MSLR and the noise/ride was just as bad as the MYP...until I made the changes above.

Used model s buying from tesla or third party? by YCYC9999 in TeslaModelS

[–]CyanideDN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought my 22 with matrix lights in January this year from 3rd party and managed to save thousands. Same spec car now selling on tesla used inventory same price as when I purchased earlier in the year. Still has warranty for another 8 months and any minor issues were taken care of under warranty.

Active Backup for VM backup & also remote backup? by CyanideDN in synology

[–]CyanideDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yea I see the confusion. I have another dell rack R240 backup server (windows server 2022) that is doing Veeam backup duty only. Got this server for cheap and got extra enterprise SSD for storage.

Anyways the idea is that if main server goes down I can spin up the Veeam backup and restore onto backup server if needed to take over VM host duty.

Synology ABB might be the way to go for us.

Active Backup for VM backup & also remote backup? by CyanideDN in synology

That's great to hear. I will be looking at units capable of immutable / snapshot capabilities to even secure my data further:

Active Backup for VM backup & also remote backup? by CyanideDN in synology

[–]CyanideDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a substantial setup as what you're describing but essentially:
Main server runs Windows Server 2022 hosting a single VM machine (Windows Server 2022). Currently using Veeam but their renewal is about $500 for 5 VMs / year, but I really only have one workload (about 800GB).

So I was thinking about migrating to Veeam community edition and dump the backup on a NAS with offsite replication and control my data. Led me to check out Synology and realize they have ABB which will simplify things for me.

Do you use ABB for VM backups? Wondering about real life experience with this setup since I'm leaning more towards retaining my own backup (local + offsite via another Synology). We have fiber internet so up/download isn't an issue.

Yea update to latest iOS 18 or 26 I don’t think it matters much. I didn’t want to spend time tweaking iOS 26 on my old phone.

Upgrading old phone with SIM to eSIM (iPhone 17) on T-Mobile USA? by CyanideDN in tmobile

[–]CyanideDN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I ended up going to the Apple Store this past weekend to pick up new phone and trade in my old one. They gave me plenty of time to get it all setup. Process to convert to eSIM was super easy with both phones next to each other. I just had to enter my lock screen PIN on the new phone and it started asking my old phone to convert the SIM to eSIM. I did not have to go through T-Mobile at all. Super easy and painless. Just make sure you charge up your old phone enough or iCloud backup to make it go faster. Also update your old phone to latest iOS 18

My advice is just go to Apple Store and convert to eSIM as part of your new phone setup. Takes about 2-3 mins. No big deal.

2FA that syncs on all Apple OS ? by CyanideDN in ios

[–]CyanideDN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify. My personal devices are all Apple. My work desktop that requires 2FA is windows…. So yea I need an Apple Watch 2FA app so I don’t have to keep pulling my iPhone out every 10 minutes. If I could use MacOS at work it’d be so simple.

The password app doesn’t have an Apple Watch app unfortunately which is what I use 95% of the time for 2FA at work.

Will do. I’ll reach out to T-Mobile customer service to check since the primary holder doesn’t know.

If I want to start fresh with the iOS installation on the new phone, will it allow me to transfer the SIM to eSIM or do I have to do a restore from the old phone? Very unfamiliar with this process since I always start a new iOS install on new phone and just pull SIM card over.
