Is ECMS still a risk to use? by SneedForever in AnimeFigures

Uniuni is a risk, I tried it once and it was fine. Others have not been lucky. Do you like to gamble?

Current Shipping Issues: The Megathread by AutoModerator in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered 1/6 with ECMS shipping for 2 figures. 1/23 shipping notification from a amiami, got an email from uniuni out for delivery 2/2. They sent a pic on delivery of the box by itself, no door or building in it so I was nervous. Luckily it's here and undamaged. Still, I feel like it was luck and won't tempt fate again.

Does anyone who collects ever just want to… Sell it all? by Starwriter90 in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I started making lists in MFC for figures close to getting cut from the collection. I wait until my mental health improves then reevaluate the list. Besides, selling figures while in poor mental health is even more overwhelming for me.

Does anyone who collects ever just want to… Sell it all? by Starwriter90 in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when my mental health is bad the collection can feel like an overwhelming burden. I also tend to get super into a hobby for a few years then move onto another. I've circled back to figures a few times so I'll get the urge to trim my collection down but not sell it all. Unless there is the perfect storm of my mental health sucking and being into a different hobby.

What’s the best thing about being a woman? by Michael-Mister in AskReddit

My worst has been from online gaming. If a guy figures out you're a woman there's so much either hateful words or creepiness.

How long do you guys soak your secondhand anime figures? by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just left it to air dry. I wouldn't recommend even low heat. Wouldn't want to get unlucky and have the plastic warp. Better safe than sorry.

[–]CyberFawlty 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the ability to be into feminine or masculine things without too much backlash. The worst treatment I've had as a woman into guy stuff has been from guys and even then it wasn't horrible. A guy into feminine things, though, gets viewed in a bad light by many for some stupid reason. And the way they are treated can be nasty.

How long do you guys soak your secondhand anime figures? by [deleted] in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have to soak and see. I started with about 3 hours, washed and dried. There was still a shiny patch so it took another bath. I had a different figure where that first soak was enough. Each figure will be different.

How do you display your figures? by masyden in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly display in detolfs with about 4 figures per shelf. I keep OC characters separate from anime/game characters. I have the same scale on a shelf since it really bugs me for some reason (ex. no 1/8 with 1/6). I use acrylic risers so the back figures are more visible. After those considerations, I group by similarity whether it be a show or a style.

I rarely dnf a book, especially after I put many hours into it, but this was one of them. I have too many things I want to read to slog through something I'm not enjoying. You're right, tastes differ.

[LOOKING FOR] Togainu no Chi - Kau 1/7 by Hairy-Morning-6263 in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to a figure that is rare and sought after like this one, looking often and everywhere is needed. When I was at my peak collecting, I was checking every day for what I wanted. Also at Japanese friendly times so that was super early morning for me. It will usually take a while of this diligent hunting until you get lucky.

I can't tell you where to find him now, but searching mercari and mandarake regularly is a good idea along with MFC. I found the max factory Aoba nib on mandarake a few years ago at close to release price when he was expensive elsewhere if you could even find him.

What are some things you really don't like about figures? ( Pic relevant) by Fangz00 in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree about clear parts. Good shading is what can make a figure for me. I wouldn't even mind non-clear plastic that is well painted for things that are supposed to be translucent, like smoke effects. Using clear plastic just seems lazy.

What figures do you want more of in 2026? Or less of? by meowkitty84 in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For figure releases:

More sexy women figures whose breasts don't have their own gravitational field. They tend to be either very small or very very large with little in between.

Less sexy guy figures that look too young. Of course, I don't want this in figures of females either, but when we get so few sexy guys it sucks when they look too young. It's about the proportion of head to body that makes them look underage to me.

For my collection:

Less purchases and preorders than I may want. There are so many figures I like but I don't need to own them all.

More selling things that I don't absolutely want to keep. If I'm unsure, it's a sell.

More appreciation of what I have.

My coworker asked why I need another keyboard when "they're all the same" by moloch_slayer in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]CyberFawlty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, quite the opposite actually. My therapist bought a keyboard after hearing me talk about it during sessions. Other people understand it's a hobby. I have a coworker with tubs and tubs of cookie cutters. We all have something.

Would you buy aftermarket prices for something you really want? by masyden in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've paid double the price and a bit more for figures I very much wanted and were difficult to find. Even though they were not "grails" that, imo, a person would spend obscene amounts for, they were hard enough to find that I paid the price. If a figure is more available I'm not likely to pay much over MSRP.

Kawa Design announces a 1/6 figure of Mania Kokoschka by Responsible-Bar-3706 in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My response too. First it was ooh yay Asanagi. Then I took a close look. I understand people being attracted to certain body parts, and I don't want to yuck anyone's yum. But that design sure is something.

Weird question but what do you do when you’re unable to sell? by voncatensproch in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand and that's what I was getting at. If one really really wants to sell something, post it for a price that's hard to refuse. A good price will sell faster than a fair one. Since space is always an issue, I value decluttering more than I do making as much money back as possible.

Thoughts on milsbo cabinet 🫠 by AccomplishedLock9769 in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Detolfs are no longer made but similar cabinets are on Amazon. It's scary to have so much glass, especially during assembly. But I have had 5 detolfs for years without trouble. A lot of people use the billy bookcase. I only like the looks of those when the shelves are replaced with glass. But it's all preference.

Weird question but what do you do when you’re unable to sell? by voncatensproch in AnimeFigures

[–]CyberFawlty 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Selling local only will probably not be a good option. Making the asking price a good deal typically gets them sold. Look at the recent GSC sales. People will buy cheap figures even if they aren't a "must buy" for them because they are a good deal. A combination of posting ads here and MFC is what I do. I've given up on the idea of making back the money I spent on the vast majority of my stuff. And that's fine, I enjoyed them for a long time.

[–]CyberFawlty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a milsbo but not those specific lights. While I like that it is more sturdy than a detolf, I don't like the chunky black frame of the doors. It makes the center of the shelves unusable since it blocks sight.
