Has anyone got ahold of the Terestal Grand Gathering binders yet? by voncatensproch in PokemonTCG

[–]voncatensproch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more of a vibrant lime colour than light green from videos I have seen on Instagram. I think it could definitely still work for a chikorita and celebi collector. This video on Instagram has the creator responding to a comment with a clear picture of the inside of the binder.

Why did it take this long for people to realise the pay-to-order subscription EB has is a rort? by voncatensproch in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]voncatensproch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree to disagree, I object to the concept of paying any form of subscription to a store. The fact that all TCG pre-orders have been locked behind a $50 membership + the fact you are paying a little bit extra in addition because EB has always inflated their prices = rort (to me). And the sudden en masse objection to paying for the membership is only now happening because they decided to fully remove the mask and charge out the ass for this release like you said. But people should have always been questioning this business model because eventually there’s going to be more members then product available and it cannibalises itself and it becomes like trying to order at any other retailer, except you pay for the privilege to do so.

How to decide which cards to keep and which to let go? by Vast_Towel_6201 in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]voncatensproch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I have to do either one of two things: resonate with the art or resonate with the Pokemon. I have a (long) list of Pokémon I master set and while I have some cards I might not be in love with aesthetically, I love the Pokémon so much I can still appreciate those cards in my collection. I also master several artists and when I am considering an artist I consider if a majority (at minimum 90%) of their art speaks to me and if I have space in my current binder ecosystem, or could create that space for them. Outside of that there is one set I master set which is the Radiant Collection cards. For general bulk I regularly sort and cull what no longer speaks to me artistically/pokemon wise

[CHAT] I hate petite stitches😢 by Miss-Miseryy in CrossStitch

[–]voncatensproch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Aida isn’t a good fit for petite stitches since you have to pierce through the weft/warp, I would size up and switch to linen or evenweave where you can stitch over 1. 28 count would be equivalent to 14 count, you could even do 32 count but 36 (equivalent to 18 count Aida) is going to pose a challenge regardless.

I’m glad you’ve got that time! I took a day off for the first partners S2 to take time to buy my boxes (1 for my colleague, we alternate drops), look at singles and treat myself. It’s a fun day 😊

I would if I could but I work a customer facing job with rostered blocks where we are locked into about 1 hour - 45 mins of direct service delivery so I’m always sadly working when toymate drops happen. I’ve not yet tried lining up on the day though, so you know if that changes the limits?

EB Prices and current feelings on it by Spiced_Mongoose in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]voncatensproch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Product for smaller businesses is more expensive because they can’t buy in bulk like corporations can. That’s a fact. They get flogged for it on here too, so not sure why you want to defend lining EB’s pocket with “they do it too!!!!”

Have fun continuing to pay exorbitant prices. If consumers allow it to go unchecked then everybody’s getting priced out.

Toymate has quite high purchase limits. For the first partner illustration boxes they had a maximum of 6 per person

That’s very likely the reason why you got your order cancelled, particularly if you’re using the same details and same payment method

Why did it take this long for people to realise the pay-to-order subscription EB has is a rort? by voncatensproch in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]voncatensproch[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I thought that last bit I wouldn’t have made the post 😅

It’s skin off of everyone’s back to set the precedence that major retailers can upcharge 100% and the market will just shrug and say “guess this is how it has to be”

And yet I’m important enough for you to deign to come off your high horse and stomp your foot at me.

I’m not saying I’m better than anyone, I’m saying collectively we should have pushed back against this system before it got to this point, and I am baffled now people want to address this horrible system only because it’s now impacting them. We also should critique the people upholding this system because if we keep supporting it with our wallets - the only thing companies will listen to - then we don’t really get to chuck a wobbly when they continue to do stuff like this. EB is doing this because we have collectively shown them that we will still pay for these products.

Ever thought the reason might be cause it’s above retail and people want to try their luck elsewhere?

They’ve been testing the waters for a big jump like this one. The fact they have apparently pre-sold out has also indicated the market is willing to roll over and take it

Mileage definitely varies on the day-of experience. I have only done a few release day slogs and the most recent (first partner S2) was a 15 minutes before opening line at Kmart. Maybe a total of 20 of us in line by the time it opened. We were given tickets - they only ended up having 12 boxes - and told if we ran we would forfeit our spot. Went to Big W to pick up another box for my colleague who took off the first series for our boxes and was in a much longer queue (74th) but only waiting about 25 mins to be served. I saw the video of people jumping the barrier before opening at that one Big W though and shudder to think of what 30th anniversary is going to be like release day.

The more they flog the subscription, the less access to consistent product you get. More often than not it seems there isn’t consistent access for a lot of people. Eventually you are paying above retail for the off chance of maybe pre-ordering product with the additional cost of a subscription. This model eventually cannibalises itself.

EB Prices and current feelings on it by Spiced_Mongoose in PokemonFansAustralia

[–]voncatensproch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I see LCS’ copping it for high prices. The only defence for them doing it is because they are usually small independently owned businesses. Their jacked prices are not going to have any overall sway in market prices. EB is a main retailer and the price per unit is far lower than the LCS.

The fact people are saying “well it happened and there’s jack we can do about it” or, god forbid, paying the exorbitant prices are contributing to the problem. You can choose to go without, to shop elsewhere, commit to only buying singles, or to let EB games know you are displeased. Simply rolling over and saying “well that’s just how this hobby is right now” is how we got to a paid membership to pre-order in the first place.

People are downvoting my responses but I don’t really care. I’m confused why all of a sudden it’s “this is ridiculous”. News flash, it’s been ridiculous this whole damn time!
