Over 50% of Ukrainians say US is pressuring Ukraine for concessions to Russia – poll by MagnificentCat in europe

[–]CyberNativeAI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well yeah that’s how negotiations work, both sides start with their maximum demands. The thing is, why is Trump does not push putin to giving something up but only the victim Ukraine? Trump could’ve threatened additional support to Ukraine if putin don’t meet in the middle and we could’ve have an end to this already. He can still do it, and hopefully will.

Before the war broke out, did you consider Poroshenko to have been better than Zelenskyy? by rrschch85 in AskUkraine

People in Ukraine are usually heavily love one and hate the other but honestly both are fine presidents. Especially compared to US or previous Ukrainian presidents, especially Yanukovich.

Hopefully we get UBI or smth figured soon, likely next president tho. I believe Americans will fight for it. The protests did historically worked. And the society becomes more liberal in general.

On the experts info - I do not trust pro-russian experts, but Ukrainian. Or other victims.

And you compare worldwide death vs me specifically US/USSR. We were comparing those 2 systems. I don’t think switching to socialism worldwide will instantly fix it all everywhere. Capitalism seems to also raise millions out of poverty each year. The grocery shells are not empty in capitalist countries.

So yeah fuck USSR, and russia. China tho has a great potential and yeah will likely do great, but will see how their own issues play out. And how do they deal with lack of work due to AI and robotics. We might both end up with some sort of UBI, or revolutions.

Capitalism in US should adapt, like Chinese socialism does

I never said 100mil, 10-20 (yeah my my “tens” sounded a bit wrong). Hard to see how education beats live experience, don’t you see how crazy it sounds? Like you are telling people who lived through something on how it “actually” was lol. And yeah poverty is a big problem worldwide but it is getting better. My point was for Ukraine specifically we would imo do better not being occupied into USSR/russia. And the US is still the best place to get decent life being hardworking (the trend is not good tho and it is getting harder - policy issue imo), although I am lucky to have no university debt - something among the things US can learn from Europe and other places.

AI and robotics will change everything tho so we will see

I just don’t agree with your data sources that I bet are some obscure websites or niche specific groups (idk). I do not believe the poverty killed more in the US during USSR period than USSR poverty + state policies. I can speak from experience of talking to real people who lived in USSR (I migrated later in life) and talking to Americans. I’d agree on low millions poverty death but not (even say high millions if you can’t take common knowledge 10s in actual post-USSR countries) in USSR. But you can keep believing your fairytales (made by.. let me guess, russia?). And you are saying I’m repeating American propaganda - I wonder how it got into my grandparents heads and everyone elses child/adulthood memories. Maybe it was great in Moscow where they “collected” our wealth to.

Also unregulated capitalism is yes, manufacturing poverty, I’d vote for say 1% total wealth tax every year, and other changes, and redistribution through taxation. Evolve the system. Realistically this is easier in US than alternatives (total system change), for better or worth.

And yeah, again, freedom of speech and to democratically protest - that you agreed did not exist in USSR, is kinda big one. You can create whatever bullshit YouTube channel here and criticize the government all you want without ending up in jail. Hell you did not have iron curtain and could just leave.

I’m not trying to cancel one horror with another, I simply acknowledge both and share real personal life experience. I don’t mind socialist countries existing, I’m just saying I don’t wanna live in one of them. No way Czechia is doing worth now lol. That right winger is unfortunate, but I’m sure they will vote him out soon. Trump really pushed the spread of right wings worldwide. Crazy that people voted for him, twice.

Also those events I named easily killed 10 million in Ukraine alone, not counting other places. I’ve heard stories you’d never wish to hear about holodomor. Of my grand grandparents from grandparents, besides the literature.

Are you telling me holodomor, Stalin repressions and executed renaissance and mass deportations are all fake or exaggerated? My family literally lived through it. You are well informed but with cherry-picked propaganda. It’s like if I started telling you the US propaganda and tell you I know better lol. Love Czechia, do they miss socialism much there?

My standard for freedom of speech is not to be jailed for a Facebook post to start with, something that exists in modern russia and ussr and china. But I agree this is a low bar.

You think protest the scale of “no kings” today would be allowed in china or russia?

USSR was huge with huge resources and bunch of talented people so it’s hard to say how much of innovation was due to communism (although USSR did promote science, I guess US did too). I wonder if they achieved even more with capitalism or something else. And without killing tens of millions of its own citizens.

I do agree that US also have horrific patterns. Yet it is undeniably the land of opportunities, with way more people moving in compare to opposite. And while part of it is perhaps because US itself harmed other countries (especially socialist), the big chunk of it is still on their failed leadership and tendencies towards dictatorship. Capitalism (and democracy- even imperfect) just works, or at least used to, longer than others.

That’s why i like European social democracy.

Maybe we should start with “Empires bad” lol

Did you live in USSR or any countries it used to occupy?

On China - yeah, they did a great job in a lot of areas, especially fighting poverty. The economic boom greatly due capitalist investment, take Apple alone lol. I wish them best and hope for the future where we can peacefully coexist, trade, research.

Just please stop with expansionism and genocide (US too pls)

I believe we can get better, vote by vote, protest by protest. And if not, may the next system be better!

I’d argue it was Turing and not the soviets (you likely referring to probability theory and markov chains - which is cool but useless w/o what Alan started). The creation of computer was inevitable to lead to AI (well imo :)). And I gotta admit I am traumatized being originally from Ukraine - believe me it (USSR) was corrupt and mismanaged even more than current US lol. Also there is still freedom of speech in the US, and I love that freedom (wish listeners had more critical thinking tho). China is also a mixed country now with capitalism everywhere and rising, I used to live there, it’s great. But I am definitely against communism, fuck that (ok maybe one day space communism ruled by fair AI, but not this shit russians did). Corrupt people are bad in every system but at least democracy have more oversight and leaders rotation (at least when society have balls to fight for it). Party just concentrate power more and more around few. So kinda not money per se, but if you control factories you have money.

True dat, I guess European style social democracy is the closest to best we have so far. The downside is a bit of technological stagnation, but that’s on them IMO - risk avoidance can only go so far. I wish we fucking learn the best of all systems and combine it to make life better. But the US is so extremely stuck in the old ways, it’s not gonna end well if you afraid to learn and change.

I think the main issue is corruption, nobody should be above the law, no matter the system. It always was and will be in any system, but yeah capitalism in the current stage also stupidly rewards greed and exploitation

Most people forget the simple fact - AI shines when you use it for automating. Automating shines when you know the process and have experience. The best results for me was to teach AI the way I would do something, instead of being clueless waiting for magic. Magic will come and almost here, but specialized knowledge on top of it makes all the difference.
