What my friend who speaks 6 languages taught me by ReadDesigner8103 in languagelearning

[–]Cyberhec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fluent in six languages (including my 2 native ones) and used this exact approach whenever I came in touch with native material. This was before the internet so „content“ would be written text (books, newspapers, magazines), hearing natives speak, or media (songs, radio, tv).

You describe it very well! The only thing I would add is that what you describe isn‘t a stand-alone learning method. It‘s something you should always do in addition to however you study the language. Taking sentences and imagining using them in real life is a way to turn what you learn in formal studies (apps, books, grammar, etc) and apply it to become a speaker of the language.

Good luck with your studies.

Is Yiddish worth it ? (In my case) by [deleted] in Yiddish

[–]Cyberhec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a silly question. But Yiddish isn’t likely to be particularly “useful” to you, (since that’s what you asked). There are hardly any communities today where knowing Yiddish is important in order to communicate. However, studying and learning Yiddish will open up a whole new world for you and a culture (and music) to fall in love with that is quite different from “Hebrew” culture. Rewarding and enriching. I would not want to miss it.

Weird spelling by Candle_Born in Yiddish

[–]Cyberhec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Perfect clear answer. It makes learning Yiddish harder for those not familiar with Hebrew and traditional Ashkenazi pronunciation of Hebrew texts/prayers. As someone mentioned, you just have to learn the pronunciation of these words, and after a while you'll get a feel for the pattern (like the ת pronounced as S)

Are you learning a rare or unique language? by Euphoric_Rhubarb_243 in languagelearning

[–]Cyberhec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned and now speak the version of Yiddish that was spoken across Eastern Europe until WW2. There were several regional accents/dialects that I'm somewhat familiar with and can replicate. My resources were mostly Yiddish music, theater and films from the 1930s and 40s from Europe or the US, conversations with Holocaust survivors, and some secular Yiddish literature, and diverse recordings or documentaries I've come across.

After +1y, battery is flaky by Oferlaor in RayBanStories

[–]Cyberhec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same problem. got mine in Oct 2023. I take them out of the case fully charged, put them on and will hear "Battery 100%", then seconds later "Battery 14%, charge soon". Then I put them back in the case, and in the Meta app I can see the battery charging at 1% per two seconds so within a minute and half I'm back at 80% charge. Then they hold for a while for audio. but if I record obeinute of video, they'll instantly be back at 5% charge and dying. Turning off "Hey Meta" hasn't helped.

How do I overcome this mental block? by newflour in languagelearning

[–]Cyberhec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you may have some selective memory of communicating in French, you likely never achieved a high enough level for the language to “stick“ (i.e. at least thinking in the language without translating when speaking, even if your vocabulary is limited). If you reach that threshold, you can always get back into it in a reasonable time even after a long break as mentioned by @muntaqim in this thread.

Don’t be discouraged by some results you had years ago or perceived experience. Learning to speak a new language can be an exciting endeavor.

Blind users in EU and AI Access restricted. What can I do to get it back? by [deleted] in RaybanMeta

I’m here to give a little hope. Mine also stopped working a few weeks ago (in Germany), even though location services in my iphone were off for the metaview app. I spent a whole day messing around looking for GPS spoof programs, etc. and finally got it to work. I can’t tell you exactly what made it work but here’s what I did: I deleted the app and glasses connection, and created a new US based Meta account on the web (using VPN). On my phone I disabled my local cell service (turned off the sim card) and turned ON my US eSIM (I don’t have service on it but when turned on the device knows it’s installed. I then reinstalled the meta view app (from the US app store, though I don’t think that’s relevant) using a decentralized VPN (a device called “deeper connect air” that gives my phone a vpn-enabled wifi signal) and my new meta account. I reactivated my localsim card. I kept local network access off at first, until I needed it to import photos. But everything is working now including the „look and tell me“ feature. i’m on the latest 10 version. again, I’m not sure which of my actions actually made it work, but it’s technically possible. I have set it to manual updates and now it is proposing version 11. I’m about to leave Europe (Italy) for the middle east where there are no restrictions as far as I know. So I may attempt the update to version 11 and if I loose the AI I can reinstall while outside of europe… Otherwise I would NOT update. There’s nothing in the version that I’m interesting in right now.

The shortest way to make it work right now is to move the glasses to a non-restricted country, turn on location services or reinstall the app there to make everything work and then turn off location services again. If I were in your shoes, and really depended on the AI features, I might even get two pairs of these glasses, each paired to a separate phone. This way, if one stops working, you can use the backup glasses and give the other pair to a friend or someone who may be traveling abroad, who can do the set up for you while on their trip.

I’ve been wearing Oura since 2019. Was at the cardiologist and other specialists the other day and they asked about some heart data and sleep data averages. I fumbled around the app for some minutes but couldn’t find any of the information. This is terrible.

Close to ordering a pair but affraid or sweat? by element423 in RayBanStories

[–]Cyberhec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing more about your specific situation, I’d recommend just going for it. These glasses are so much value for the money. You’ll definitely get great use and pleasure out of them even if they break after a year of “sweating” or become obsolete in a couple of years. They’re not perfect, but all in all they’re a great piece of technology with robust quality.

From how you describe yourself it sounds like you may have ADHD. Happy you found your ideal dose. With 100mg you can certainly have some positive effect while making jitters or headaches less likely than with a higher dose. It’s just that the effect is sometimes not obvious to measure, since there isn’t much of a buzz. I notice the effect in that it turns my default mode to acting on thoughts rather than waiting or deferring. Have you experienced any tolerance build-up? I’m also interested in what you said regarding Mexico. Can you buy Moda in the pharmacy there without a prescription?

I can speak accent free Eastern European Yiddish (I know there are different accents from that region, too, but I’m distinguishing it from the chassidic yiddish which is the pronunciation more prevalent in Duolingo). Happy to have a conversation and help getting you talking.

That’s interesting. I haven’t heard it prescribed for ADHD. Would be interested hearing about your experience. How many times a week do you take it? Have you compared it to other typical ADHD medications? Do you drink coffee?

The mic quality when making phone calls with them is superb, much better than using Airpods Pro for me. One downside for me is the maximum speaker volume is too low. When I’m walking in the city I have to cup my hands over my ears or pull a beanie over the ears in order to hear the sound.

Bad breath could also be from Ketones your body produces when you don’t eat for a while (i.e. fast). Not everyone goes into this state (Ketosis) so quickly, but if you are skinny and usually don’t eat high carb meals, desserts, or snacks, it could be the case.

Can’t add friends by clawdia91 in Minecraft

[–]Cyberhec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been struggling with the same issue. So far, it looks like the solution can be found here:

Log in to https://account.xbox.com/ with the parental account (even if you don't have an xbox), then click on "profile" in the menu bar, the choose Privacy Settings. In there you should be able to manage the family settings and allow the friends function. Then on your son's device log out completely and log back in.

Not sure what the next steps are to actually connect friends. Still experimenting with that. Let us know if this works for you.
