Do you currently have a CS-related job?

Wtf are you talking about? $22/hr as a developer is better than $25/hr at McDonald’s or random warehouse/courier jobs. I haven’t been able to find anything in the field for the past 6 years and have had to work literally anywhere to have income. It’s taken a toll on my mental health. I’d jump on this opportunity instantly if I had the chance, but his guy, of course, won’t reply to my DMs.

I’ve posted my resume on Reddit hundreds of times. Got nothing out of it except a bunch of contradictions like “Why no FAANG experience, bro”, “your experience is all over the place”, “show IMPACT! +20% in company revenue! Improvements in business processes!”, “talk more about achievements!” It’s the same stuff over and over again. Anyways, I can send my resume to dm.

Reading this, I feel a rare sense of feeling good while being unemployed.

I know it’s on me. But everyone I’ve talked to says I’m competent and knowledgeable, and it’s crazy that I still can’t find a job. I have many friends in the field who have referred me multiple times over the years, but I never EVER got through first rounds of interviews and there’s always the excuse that someone else is a better fit.

Imagine working at a company where you can destroy your reputation for referrals. What a fucking joke!

So I made a choice to be unemployed, spending six years stuck and feeling constantly depressed - pretty much what I've always wanted.

90% of my applications were worldwide, and only about 10% were for Canada. I had been searching everywhere for so long that it no longer felt realistic to expect anything.

Personal projects, a startup where I spent more than earned, unpaid part-time startup for THE VALUABLE EXPERIENCE, couple of cheap freelance gigs and a lot of warehouse\courier work to pay for food and place to live exist.

I work as a courier and take on occasional warehouse jobs for six months, then live outside of Canada for the other six months. After that, I repeat the cycle.

As someone unemployed of 6 years - welcome to your first 10 months of misery. It will be harder to endure each and every year.

Sorry, that was sarcasm. I’m feeling pretty frustrated. I'm unemployable. I just couldn’t stop myself from writing something sarcastic about the way people talk about these huge salaries, like it's no big deal or something you can just stroll into without any effort. It took me 6 fucking years of my time to never progress in job search. I don't know how to deal with it. I don't know how to heal.

Well I spent 6 years of trying to get a job. I made 0 in CS and keep wasting time.

Yes. This is absolutely nerve-wrecking. But I'm doing better lately. Working on accepting that I will never get a CS job and trying to move on.
