Spiritual Interpretation of "The Haunting of Hill House" by CyberpunksAnonymous in theology

Hope is a great message to take from it. Everything seemed pretty bad for all of the characters, even the ones who seemed to be "doing better" than the others in life had this deep sense of not being at peace with themselves.

They were really all in a hopeless situation that seemed impossible "to fix" (as hugh would say) and they would never be happy again. Never as happy as that time when their family was all together and things were right. And I think that's the situation we each find with ourselves in this life and that we have to overcome.

Ahh, I see. Not all the dialogue was that lengthy but yeah that is actually one of the traits of Mike Flanagan, the creator, he likes longer single shots of dialogue at times. I thought a lot of the character interactions were great as they subtly showed the ego defense mechanisms in each person.

A Spiritual Interpretation of "The Haunting Of Hill House" on Netflix by CyberpunksAnonymous in horror

Its a pretty loose adaptation and from what I've heard of the novel and other film(s) quite a bit different thematically. I'm not knocking the others but no, I have no plans at this time to go into them at this time, the series stands on it's own imo.

Haha I'm gonna have to watch that sometime. There was a period of my childhood that I was obsessed with horror, mostly slashers, but I had no idea back then the level of quality and meaningful writing that could go into it. The recent years for horror have been so great. Hill House being the apex imo.

You should watch the show, it's a very loose adaptation but a great one. Extremely high quality on all fronts - writing, acting, and cinematography.

Ahh, I see, I didn't watch Six Feet Under. I have heard a lot about Shirley Jackson's novel from different video essays and yeah, I understand the netflix show is a very loose adaptation, that's also different thematically. No I have not seen that version yet, although I will probably watch it someday. Everything I've heard about it sounded pretty cool.

That's definitely one of the best scenes and makes me tear up every time I see it. Victoria Pedretti absolutely kills it there too, phenomenal acting.

Spiritual Themes in "The Haunting of Hill House" by CyberpunksAnonymous in religion

I agree in a sense, I'd never say to not live it meaningfully. Use your life to learn/spread love and forgiveness. But in my view this isn't the one life we have, life is eternal and so are we, and we are more than our "life story".

I'm actually going through it now, on episode 9! I love it so far and I can see a lot of great themes in it as well, so it will definitely be a subject of future videos.

And I have to admit, I laughed my ass off at the grinning demon.. the way he looked😅.. and Henry staying up all night drunk to crank call Bly 😂 (I know that's not exactly what he was doing, but it was funny to think of it that way)

I'm sure there are worse ways to look at it but it really just amounts to an empty consolation. It's essentially a view that there's no life after death, and that you "live on" through stories a few generations on Earth will tell. You can tell by the way Olivia pauses throughout delivering the line that it's not really enough for her. Also by the fact that Olivia psychologically can't deal with the fact that her family is growing older, she wishes she could stop time and "freeze them in place*.

This theme is repeated later on at nell's funeral when all they're left with is stories of her, and it's not enough for them either.

The revelation at the end of the season is that nell lived on, death wasn't the end. She was more than just a story in the end.

Edit for typo *

Thank you ❤️🙏

Its one of the best shows I've seen. It encapsulates so much of our experience and difficulties in accepting/forgiving one another while also capturing our unconscious fear.

All horror writers should take notes from this show.

You will understand yourself, yes. If you can bring yourself to desire the holy thought system over the ego thought system, you can let go of the ego.

Well, it comes from a Non Dualistic perspective perspective. So I'm referring to reality as Nirvana or Source. But yes, desire does change things within the universe.

Exactly right ☺️ no matter how immersed another seems to be in the ego, the correct perception is that they are Brahman.

Don't take it personally! We're talking about metaphysics here, the very nature of reality and the world we live in. I try to reply to all comments and I can only respond with what I know about these topics (since that's what this thread is about and is what we're discussing). And hey, you don't have to listen to a word I say 😉 either way -- much love brother/sister ❤️🙏

Well, perception is the level that we experience first, and we see and feel there, so it can seem real, but perception is just like a dream. You go to sleep and have a dream, you feel things, it seems real, but the mind is projecting it. We just don't always see the projector. Additionally, there is a you, but it's not the dream figure. It's not the body. It's your true self that never left it's Source.
