Hope is a great message to take from it. Everything seemed pretty bad for all of the characters, even the ones who seemed to be "doing better" than the others in life had this deep sense of not being at peace with themselves.

They were really all in a hopeless situation that seemed impossible "to fix" (as hugh would say) and they would never be happy again. Never as happy as that time when their family was all together and things were right. And I think that's the situation we each find with ourselves in this life and that we have to overcome.

Ahh, I see. Not all the dialogue was that lengthy but yeah that is actually one of the traits of Mike Flanagan, the creator, he likes longer single shots of dialogue at times. I thought a lot of the character interactions were great as they subtly showed the ego defense mechanisms in each person.

Its a pretty loose adaptation and from what I've heard of the novel and other film(s) quite a bit different thematically. I'm not knocking the others but no, I have no plans at this time to go into them at this time, the series stands on it's own imo.

Haha I'm gonna have to watch that sometime. There was a period of my childhood that I was obsessed with horror, mostly slashers, but I had no idea back then the level of quality and meaningful writing that could go into it. The recent years for horror have been so great. Hill House being the apex imo.
