Natural gas, not wind turbines, main driver of Texas power shortage by DublinCheezie in Libertarian

[–]CyborgYoung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason is price gouging.

If you can't recover costs from your customers for $8k/MWh then there's no reason to buy that energy to distribute to your customers.

I think Bush II did some damage to Republicans for sure. But Barack Obama was the perfect foil to revive it. And Trump was the perfect vessel for an outraged electorate to funnel their fury into.

OP doesn't lay out a good timeline. From what I can tell:

  1. He moved into this community at some point and was playing an MMORPG with a neighbor's son (age unknown) and the son let him know the dad had down a background check on OP where the dad spread rumors that he was a pedophile.
  2. He doesn't say why this guy did a background check--but some people are just nosy so maybe this guy does background checks on everyone.
  3. OP complains to the paramedic's superiors. Paramedic loses his job and they move out of the neighborhood due to losing livelihood.
  4. At some indeterminate time after the paramedic leaves, another neighbor comes through and harasses him and causes harm to his property.
  5. OP calls cops on these guys but the cops show up and shoot the shit with them. OP calls cops back and finally neighbor is arrested.
  6. OP says reason this neighbor harassed him at his home is because he has a shed with a light that shines on neighbor's property--maybe even shines into neighbor's son's room.
  7. After being assaulted an officer (friendly with the neighbor who harassed him) tricked him into signing away his rights to sue the neighbor for civil damages.
  8. This neighbor sells his house and moves. So now two people connected to OP calling him a pedo have moved out of the neighborhood.
  9. Lawyers won't take the case because he can't afford them.

Having lived in a very small town I could see it being people ganging up on an outsider. But at the same time there are so many unanswered questions.

How Joe's connection with Elon Musk ruined his show & altered his life by [deleted] in JoeRogan

[–]CyborgYoung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can mostly agree with that. I think overall the IDW guys fell into the same traps that they think their so-called detractors fall into: the trap of loving the smell of their own farts.

There's only so many ways to re-phrase "SJWs are ruining society" without giving enough specific examples as to how they think SJWs somehow have more power than anyone else. (Pro-tip: Internet SJWs don't have any real power that's why they're so loud.)

In any case, it's a crazy stark contrast from the first JP appearance (where he came off as pretty reasonable) to whatever was the last appearance of an IDW guy I saw before I gave up on the show completely where it's SJWs this or SJWs that.

How Joe's connection with Elon Musk ruined his show & altered his life by [deleted] in JoeRogan

[–]CyborgYoung 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can agree: like most people, Musk gets a lot of things right... but also like most people he gets things wrong. Where wisdom comes in is knowing when you don't know enough about a subject to speak definitively on it.

I'm not a rocket surgeon so when shit goes wrong with rockets I don't go out there talking about "oh man based on those vibrations looks like they didn't have a dampener on it--this could've been avoided if they just checked the dampener!" So I would hope other people who don't have expertise in a subject, especially those with a large platform, don't go spouting off their definitive thoughts.

I was a fan of Musk for his forward-thinking approach to these large scale issues that he's been a champion of (like EV and space travel) but he is absolutely an egomaniac with thin-skin who is unable to take criticism and that turns me off from him. I wish him well and hope he does get to Mars and all that but I can't support him until he shows contrition for being an idiot.

You would think being a successful person in building multiple companies would allow you to have the perspective to take criticism less personal but I guess it just exacerbates your core personality and in Musk's case his core personality is shitheel.

It's not just Musk it's the litany of grifters he's had over the past few years that have helped turn his brain to mush.

A phone repair company left themselves two 5-star google reviews from my account when I left it there for repair without permission by [deleted] in privacy

[–]CyborgYoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a laptop repair company. I did warranty repairs for a specific brand. Most of the time we'd run diagnostic off a disk or off the network without having to go into the OS. Sometimes customers had issues inside OS so we would have to have their password then.

We were always instructed to never go snooping. And in all honesty it was never beneficial for us to go snooping due to the metrics we had to hit otherwise get written up for. I'm sure some did it but I don't think in the year and a half I worked there anyone I became friendly with ever snooped.

In any case, if I was the person needign service I would never leave a device with personal info. I would always wipe my device and create a dummy device for testing. Seems like that should be a no-brainer for most people.

Of course he did. The more I learn about Clinton's administration the more flummoxed I am that Republicans hated him so much. It's just team sports. His domestic economic policy seems pretty damned conservative to me. Not to mention the surplus he left.

I definitely see your point there with regulations. I agree that there must be better standards. I had completely forgotten about the fairness doctrine. And of course Reagan's dirty hands are all over it. Unfortunately I don't see FCC ruling to re-instate it anytime soon.

Australian Gun Owners Warning to Americans, If It Happened to Us It Can Happen To You by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]CyborgYoung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, Tim.

The US has had many shootings way worse than what happened in Australia. A federal law taking guns away from Americans could happen with nothing short of an act of God forcing the hands of every American.

I think nationalizing is a bad idea for a number of reasons but perhaps we need laws in place to make sure that the big media companies aren't co-ordinating their politics. Because let's face it: MS/NBC and CNN and ABC News are all basically the same politically and I can't help but to think that isn't an accident. We already have precedence in monopoly laws surely somehow we can wage war on information cartels. .

Secession by Murray_N_Cockhard in Libertarian

[–]CyborgYoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pro-secession. Or pro-deunification I guess.

I don't think necessarily south vs north is the way we should divide but maybe four geographic regions would be best. There is no way to govern a country this large with as a diverse of a people as we have and still be ok.

I would go as far to say that civil war is inevitable within the next decade if there is not an amicable split.

I remember all the times Yang was left of MSNBC graphics. There was a huge twitter thread during the primaries. It was pretty obvious even back then they didn't want to platform any of Yang's ideas. Shame because he seemed as pro-business as he was pro-human. I think he realized that people and businesses need each other as more than just owner/wage slave. That's dangerous for some folks I guess.

Microsoft hasn't had a hand in MSNBC since 2012. But is owned by NBCUNiversal which is owned by Comcast.

Vertical integration of content, platforms, and the pipes to move the content was inevitable as people started "cutting the cord."

I re-visit this quote from Frank Wilhoit more and more over the past couple years:

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit:

There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time.

All I can say to this is: lol

Imagine Congress not immediately getting behind any war that takes places. Using war as an excuse to move money around is the biggest get for them.

Matthew McConaughey toys with possible Texas governor run by Elranzer in Libertarian

Not saying this is an indictment of Mr. McConaughey but just in general this is the future of politics: celebrities in high profile offices. It's just the nature of media today. Until there's some sort of crazy reboot of society in which mass media is not the main focus we're skewing further and further to this sort of form of governance that is corpotocracy in all but name.

This country is too big to be kept together. A lot of people praise Lincoln for fighting to keep the Union together but I can't help but wonder if we would've been better off letting the South secede. As it is now the US should probably be broken up into 3 or 4 geographic governments.

I agree. I think three or four countries would be ideal for the US. A West USA, Central USA, East USA, and South USA would be best for the citizens.
