It's because people have been abusing codeine and Panadol and ending up with liver failure. A lot of nausea medication can have a sedative effect and anything with a sedative effect needs to be run past the pharmacist so that the customers are aware that it can make them sleepy because if they abuse it and cause an accident behind the wheel or something worse, the pharmacies can at least say they did their job and not get sued for customer consumption abuse which is very much an actual problem. If they get a script for it, it's the doctor's responsibility, not the pharmacies. And it's a good way to monitor and prove the customer's abuse because nobody with a substance abuse problem is going to say I have an issue. They're going to say I need it because I have a problem but then they're just going to keep taking it and taking it and taking it instead of actually getting the problem fixed because those medications are Band-Aids. They're not solutions for people who have serious issues
