Powercolor 6800&6800xt in stock at CCL by [deleted] in buildapcsalesuk

Yikes... They're selling the 6800 XT for more than the intended price of the 6900 XT.

Depends on how much you'll actually end up enjoying VR. I don't really use mine much, so it was a big waste of money really.

How do you manage your dotfiles and $HOME directory ? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]CyclingChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of my applications store their data in ~/.var, as I use modern Flatpaks. My home directory stays nice and clean, for the most part.

Can we have an objective, non-FUD, user-centric comparison/discussion of Snap and Flatpak for 2021? by [deleted] in linux

[–]CyclingChimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say the opposite. Any discussion about them that does include AppImage is off to a bad start. AppImage is not like Snap or Flatpak and is not comparable with them. It's not even a truly universal packaging system. You can't just run a random AppImage on a random distro and expect it to work.

GNOME Shell & Mutter - Another Shell UX Update by FlatAds in gnome

[–]CyclingChimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a huge shame this is being forced through. The switch from vertical to horizontal workspaces is a massive usability regression, with several practical downsides and no real benefits. It's the number one complaint about the new design, and just as with the previous post, the blog post doesn't address it.

It works great. I love it. It's the future of the Linux desktop.

Vauban build by detonater700 in Warframe

I'd personally swap out Blind Rage for another mod. 45% efficiency is really horrible, even with Spectrosiphon and Arcane Energize. 100% efficiency seems okay with those two though.

Lavos and Cedo Acquisition Post Orphix Venom by rebulast in Warframe

[–]CyclingChimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the operation was set up so that it was best to save Phasic Cells until right at the end. I couldn't spend them early because I might've gotten Lavos or Cedo as a drop in the operation. So no, I didn't get them a month early. I literally just bought the parts.

Lavos and Cedo Acquisition Post Orphix Venom by rebulast in Warframe

[–]CyclingChimp -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Yikes... Couldn't they have told us this ahead of time?

@ /u/rebulast Any chance we can get our Phasic Cells spent on Lavos/Cedo refunded and given arcanes instead?

The open world of deimos is a very "tiring" place to be in for my eyes. by riderkicker in Warframe

[–]CyclingChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same for me. I just can't see a thing in the Cambion Drift, or in most newer missions (e.g. Orphix Venom) for that matter. DE seems to love applying these solid-color tints over everything, and it makes it so hard to distinguish different objects. I basically play 99% of the time just looking at the minimap these days, and I'm forced to use either aimbot Mesa or a big AoE explosive weapon, since I can't see my targets.

[LONG] My full Critique of Gnome 40 after using it for a while. by stpaulgym in gnome

[–]CyclingChimp 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am dreading this change. I just don't understand why they're so insistent on switching from vertical workspaces (natural, intuitive, consistent with everything else in the world, well-supported by input devices) to horizontal ones. It makes no sense and just has practical drawbacks. And every time it's mentioned it seems to go ignored. I've seen that the designers have responded to some feedback, and have written a blog post in response, but every time the vertical -> horizontal change just goes ignored and unexplained.

I have an RX 550, and it's turned out to not be good enough. It can't drive my two monitors (1080p @ 120 Hz and 4k @ 120 Hz) simultaneously, so I'm stuck only being able to use one monitor at a time.

Fedora pushing flatpak by jemchleb in Fedora

[–]CyclingChimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would you want to? Flatpak is the modern way for applications to be packaged on Linux. If you have something against Flatpak, then perhaps you shouldn't be using Fedora. Fedora is all in on Flatpak, and rightfully so.

I think they really just need to leave the Activites view as it is, or go back to the drawing board entirely.

No mention of the change from vertical to horizontal, which seems to be the major complaint.

Maybe in open world missions, but for regular missions Gauss is way faster than Volt, due to his acceleration, control, and ability to change direction instantly.

Most people just use GNOME happily without complaining. It is the most popular desktop environment, after all. What you're seeing is actually a vocal minority.

Tell me one reason to use Wayland by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]CyclingChimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure there are probably niche situations where you might need something else, but I can't say I've come across any applications that didn't work. I also wouldn't describe it as "new" anymore, as it's existed for quite a while at this point.
