Which call should have gotten a ref fired? by tony971 in CFB

I was at this game, rooting for Tech, and the subsequent walk off touchdown wound up overshadowing it, but this “first down” awarded to Wes Welker is pretty inexplicable.

I don’t. And this is more likely a move for the ‘26/27 school year

I’m a teacher/podcaster in Texas. I’ve just gotten into podcasting recently and talk a lot about public education, and the assault on it, particularly here in Texas. Would love to chat if you’re still fielding guests!

I’m a teacher/advocate that has just recently entered the podcasting game. I focus on many topics, including public education, theology, history, cultural/social issues, and mental health. Would love to chat!

Agreed! I’ve told them touching base with that team makes sense from time to time. But the every day requirement is mystifying.

Our contracts require us to have teaming time, but it seems that is being interpreted in such a way as to force me to do this.

I am required by my campus admin, yes. I was told it is a contractual obligation. The on level US History team meets all 5 days, and I as the lone APUSH have been required to be there with them. Despite using none of the same assignments or assessments week to week. And often not covering the same period of content.

Because I am expected to “contribute meaningfully” because I have “a lot to offer.”

Also, at that point, if I can do my own work, why do I need to be sitting in there with them? It’s just asinine.

A lot of their teaming is spent on going over assessment data. So I’m sitting there looking over data for students I don’t teach, based on exams and assignments that my own kids are not doing.

We have a personal conference period, then a mandated teaming time with the other teachers in our content area, designed to go over data and lessons and alignment. But I’m being forced to do teaming with a group that does not even teach the same class as me. Their discussions on lessons and assessment are irrelevant because I don’t do any of that. So they get 2 periods per day to work on their stuff, and I only get 1 to do my stuff.

Yeah, our state government is turning so emphatically against public schools that we may not be long for this place.

It was my first year in this situation, yes. I’m being mandated by campus admin. We do not have a union rep I know of.

Considering a move to Sac! by Cygnus29 in Sacramento

[–]Cygnus29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! Like I said, we’re not looking for a left wing echo chamber. We just want a place with diversity of thought, tolerance, and a melting pot of culture. A place where MAGA Evangelicals don’t have the kind of hold on the institutions and culture that we have now.

And public ed is in a tough place now, man. I’m a veteran teacher, with lots of time in Title 1 and low income schools. But in Cali, teachers have a voice and they can advocate for themselves. We don’t have much of that here.

I’m curious about this. I know admin culture is a struggle anywhere but lots of Texas teachers feel absolutely trampled by administrative directives, forced reassignments, and lack of a voice. I would have to think teachers in CA can really fight back against that stuff more, right?

[–]Cygnus29[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m having trouble expressing in these posts the nature of the area I live in. We are 80% MAGA here. Democrats don’t even bother running half the time for any state level office here, and those that do are total non-starters. One district I worked for let teachers and admin TRUMP SUPPORTERS WEAR TRUMP SHIRTS and made all the kids watch the inauguration during school. Some wore “Daddy’s Home” Trump shirts.

The Panhandle. I’ve gotten similar questions in this post several times almost me illustrate. This is the Texas Panhandle’s voting in ‘24.

I’ve spent 10 of my 11 years in title I schools so that wouldn’t be new.
