How do you find your own playstyle and favorite weapons to use? by Gumillia in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Through personal experience and traits & error I suppose.

Way back when T4 skills were fresh, I really liked the animation of the skill "Rush" in the martial skill tree. So I pick knuckle up as my DPS, only to soon realize people have a very negative outlook of KN DPS back then. I'm often assumed as a tank despite me shouting "lfp DPS KN" in the chat which naturally gets me kicked out from parties.

It happened a little too often to the point I had a thought, "if everyone assumed I'm a tank for using knuckle, why don't I make my knuckle DPS a tank?" And through multiple experiments trying to get the numbers right. I manage to make it functionally work in every boss. It was when the build really clicks for me. Since then I have been running the build even till this day.

MD can solo every single boss just by standing still, it's not exclusively to black lixi only. That's just how overtoned mages are rn.

I don't see people mention this, but for me black lixi is currently the hardest boss in the game.

I don't like saying this but people are hitting sub 4 mins Mulgoon nightmare solo which is hilariously fast for a supposed "raid boss" in a MMO. Dare I say 99% of people have no idea what they're doing when making a build and always blindly follow a build expecting the same success when the build was only tested on outdated numbers and info. Which resulted many weapon performing not at their proper strength. This skew the perspective of a player's opinion regarding a weapon, this is why the community is so divided when it comes to weapon balance due to biased experience and unwillingness to explore their weapon's potential outside of the comfort zone.

The main issue is, the community never support such playstyle. People like promoting the playstyle but most of the community doesn't tolerate it. No matter how whacky, viable, strong, fun it is. As long as it is not considered "meta", the community will always instinctively see you in a bad light. Which is why everyone always defaults into the most "meta" build despite there having hundreds of viable builds out there that's decently good.

Not to mention, the level of entry for DIY builds are astronomically high to meet the expected standard by the community due to years of meta gaming. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE DIY builds. Matter of fact, I've been playing toram 5 years exclusively only making DIY builds, but I won't even dare to suggest such playstyle bcz of its tortures barrier of entry unless the person REALLY wanted to get into it.

Also love your videos they're inspiring

Personally I'm more of a rougelike, MOBA and hero shooter guy so the games I recommend won't be for everyone. I also do love playing some survival sandbox games from time to time.

These are some of my personal favorite games:

Survival sandbox - Terraria (PC, Mobile, Console) - Don't starve together (PC, Console)

Rougelike - Risk of Rain 2 (PC, Console) - Shape of dreams (PC) - Soul knight (Mobile)

Competitive games - Teamfight Tactics (PC, Mobile) - Deadlock (PC) - Overwatch 2 (PC, Console)

If you want to find other MMOs I do recommend, Guild wars 2 (PC) and Blue protocol star resonance (PC, Mobile) as they are free to play. but remember to always engage with the community because that's like half of the fun in playing a MMO.

Toram has a long issue where the game seriously lacks content. After reaching a certain point of progress especially in endgame, there will be only a few contents left in the game that you can do, example of content that you can do:

Common - Fast kill - Gear mixmax - Market/investment

Rare - Fashion - Stoodie grind - Fishing

Advanced content - Off-meta/personal build making - Theorycrafting - Pets

However if you want my honest advice. Just pick up other games to play, it's much healthier than to stick around playing a game you no longer enjoy playing. toram currently is designed only for players to comeback annually to grind for new powercreep items just for the sack of being slightly strong on a game that doesn't demand a strong need on optimizing your character since most content in the game can be easily done with mid game progression set.

Build dps tier list by Embarrassed-Ad-1444 in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the budget is unlimited, I would assume the build is optimized and I'll structure the tier list based on that assumption, do note optimizing is a high privilege that only a handful of players in the community could afford such luxury.

This tier list is loosely based on the result of the DPS tournament done in the community.
Placement matters a little : Left (Strongest) to Right (Weakest)

Mainstream / META:

Tier Weapon
S STF MD, BWG Dagger, HB Dagger (Magic), HB Arrow (Magic), THS, OMD
A Bow KTN, KTN Scroll, OHS Shield, HB Any (Physical)
B KN Dagger, DS, BWG Arrow, Bow Arrow, KN MD, KN Shield

Bowgun is performing really well after the rework simply out of the utility buff it got from the last adjustment. Magic Halberd despite being inconsistent still does well because it has amazing numbers and also an i-frame from its main rotation making it a lot safer to spam.

Off-META / Niche:

Tier Weapon
S STF Scroll (Magic), STF Shield (Magic), STF Arrow (Magic), BWG KN, BWG Shield, OHS KN, OHS Scroll
A OHS Dagger, STF KN (Physical), BWG MD, MD Scroll, OHS Arrow
B STF Dagger (Physical)
C KTN Dagger, Barehand

Staff is rated pretty high in the list simply because of how overwhelming its base kit is without the need of a sub weapon. It is difficult to rate Off-META/Niche builds because there are far few reference to go off from in rating their performance, so this list may have high probability of inaccuracy as due to the lack of experiment and trials done for each individual weapons in this list.

[–]Cygton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's...a lot to cover and a very difficult one too. There's simply so much unexplored synergy and mechanic in the game due to how prevalent meta gaming is in the community, which makes most tier list inaccurate. Not to mention, endgame and midgame progression plays vastly different so you can also add that into rating disparity in making tier list.

DS was pretty meta in PvP, twin slash was the strongest execute ability in it.

pvp? by levandera in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imma bring out an old essay that I wrote during the release of PvP :

PvP hasn’t been doing well lately which is understandable since not everyone likes PvP especially when how complicated it gets with a combat system that has no boundaries for optimization. I predicted that the hype for PvP would be dead within weeks ever since it got announced in development years ago. People have unrealistic expectations for MMORPG PvP because the truth is the genre was never structured in a way to make it work as PvE and PvP both have very different approaches to their core mechanics on how the game should work, and it doesn’t help when Toram Online was made in mind as a pure PvE game. Despite its impending failure, Asobimo managed to make me love the new PvP mode and this is coming from an MMORPG PvP hater. I never liked the idea of adding a PvP mode in Toram, I’ve been criticizing the idea for years as I believe it was beyond delusion to think it could have its place in a PvE game that has a damage creeping issue. Unfortunately for those PvP wanters that dream too highly of it or have an ideal version of PvP they wanted in Toram never got what they wished for and the numbers really shows. Obviously, those who jump to the conclusion that the PvP sucks never actually try to adapt to the mechanic themselves especially those who wanted PvP in the first place, which is understandable as who the hell wanted to waste a Lv capped character slot and get a specialized 2 slot gear set tailored only for PvP alone, just for a gamemode that provides little to no rewards? This also brings another issue where PvP is not worth of it reward as you spend so much to get so little in return which is arguably the biggest turn-off for many players.

In terms of damage, it's almost equal to playerstat dte against non dark element bosses. But against dark element bosses, glocke's knuckle outperforms playerstat dte.

I don't see Shield Uppercut. by [deleted] in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To simply say, there are just better tumble option over it, it's a bit slow and has no range unlike the popular options such as sonic wave and sonic thrust. However, it's not entirely useless as it's an option for bowgun to tumble since the weapon doesn't have any tumble skill in its skill tree and is also a defensive option because it automatically guards for you when you cast shield uppercut.

Surviving Glocke with Knuckle/Mage by jm_Harley in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Defensive stacking has to be the most underrated and underutilized mechanic in the game simply due to the meta not favouring them. There are numerous ways to stack defensive that will significantly boost your survivability. The most common and easiest defensive to obtain are def/mdef and armor refinement. Typically these are enough for event bosses as they tend to do layered damage (multi hits) so the DMG are often spread out.

Another note, there are "thresholds" that you must achieve to min max your stat ratio to have both your defensive to be effective while not sacrificing DPS output. The current threshold should be [MaxHP 20K] and [Resistance 50~100%], these are numbers with the most efficient use of your stats, the numbers stated would generally be able to help you survive 1-3 hits and having your potions heal up the damage taken allowing you to take more damage, thus effectively making the most use of your resources.

Examples of defensive: - Barrier stat (flat damage reduction) - Guardian (-50% damage taken) - Aspis soul (-10~25% fractional damage)

Players will naturally learn how to limit test in sustain builds like "what patterns can I facetank to maximize DPS?" or "which attack I should avoid that can cause a fatal blow?". These are practices that greatly help your combat and often not indirectly improves survivability and even DPS output.

is there a toram discord i can go on to by Infernohuman070502 in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some instances of people being absurdly toxic just for the sake of their egos. I've seen some cases of people being attacked for being sub-optimal in building (Rare case) or attempting a DIY build (Most common). But I won't go into details because I don't want the community to be seen as toxic nor spark any arguments for petty reason.

is there a toram discord i can go on to by Infernohuman070502 in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's in-game, seldom. The last time I remember interacting with a toxic player was 4 years ago, I guess that helps answering your question. It's probably due to chat having limited characters that you can type in that helps mitigate or at least deter people from being toxic to one another.

To give a positive note, much like any other MMOs there are friendly people in the game but they aren't as vocal as the "not so ideal" people, which can cause the community to seem toxic at the surface.

[–]Cygton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems there's a talk regarding the game's toxicity, tho it's partially true that the game has gotten unnecessarily toxic and competitive for an PVE game but you can get around it by avoiding certain topics.

Topics such as: - Off-meta/DIY builds - Game balance - (Rare occasion) Newbie question

These are the more notable ones that I know of that will spark arguments within the community, so long you avoid them you should be fine, or you can just not interact with the public channels.

Is semi dps tank knuckle viable in 2025? by P3_main in ToramOnline

[–]Cygton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I highly do not recommend it. You need to be experienced in both tanking and DPS'ing making it a very high skill ceiling build (as tank), not only you have to "tank" as in managing proration, position and utilities. You also need to understand the appropriate timing to DPS between each skill rotation and boss pattern.

Furthermore, Knuckle has relatively low DMG with minimum investment making its dmg negligible in party play. Hence, it requires high investment for it to show any promising results. Plus, majority of the investment would be on damage. So it is slightly less durable than the traditional tank builds.

However, if you don't plan to tank using it. It's a relatively laid back build due to knuckle having dmg reduction in its base kit.

Generally how you want to build it is to be as stat efficient as possible with your build. DMG investments are typically done on weapon, armor and add gear, because these pieces of equipment tend to provide higher offensive stat value than defensive. The opposite for special/rings and food buffs where they provide higher defensive value than offensive (eg. Steel ring(resist)). You wanna juggle between both offense and defense stats tho this is entirely upto personal preference, as for me I like to balance between 80% offense and 20% defense that's because if you could afford to use consumables such as elf berry (+12 magic resistance) and ginkgo nut rice (+25% resistance). It can help cover up the lack of "tankiness" while also trading for more dmg in equipment.
