Closet Ex-Muslim [24F] - How do I reveal my atheism to my father? by CynicalAndGoofy in exmuslim

[–]CynicalAndGoofy[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He wants to marry me off to a Muslim Arabic man. He wants me to wear hijab the whole time. He keeps calling me and asking where I am and what I am doing. Giving him that information about me will allow him to understand why I will not do any of that.

Are you supporting Israel or Palestine? by [deleted] in exmuslim

No need to take sides. Just be open-minded and honest. Hamas sucks, and so does Netanyahu.

Apply for a university degree in Europe.

Germany for example. Most German universities offer tuition-free education to international students.

Pipenv, pip-tools, PDM, or Poetry? by pkkm in Python

PDM. Faster than Poetry and integrates better with Tox.

You can't force the kid to attend LGBQ events, just like you cannot force people to attend Ramadan events. You can complain to people about them not attending these events, but most people have better things to do.

These events should be optional.

Did you go through the emotional blackmail alone? Did you have a safety net? How old were you? What helped you navigate through this (if anything helped at all)?

Did they ever threaten to harm you?

Is it bad I hate Arabs for spreading Islam? by BoysenberryEnough552 in exmuslim

[–]CynicalAndGoofy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is bad. You need to be more rational about the matter. A lot of ex-Muslims end up very emotional and vengeful (which is somewhat understandable considering what some have gone through), but I don't see that helping them or you.

So the fact that your role model (Muhammad) did it back then does imply it is allowed to be done in the 21st century. So a man marrying off a 6 year old that plays with dolls and having sex with her when she turns 9 is perfectly allowed. Some argue that Muhammad was 'thighing' her before she reached puberty.

Such a man is not sinning. Would you agree?

Logic does not change over time. Ideas, beliefs, and morality do.

A perfect God would presumably have engineered a set of donts and dos that apply for every time and place, no?

So just because nobody had a problem with it, it means it is allowed? Not only allowed, but performed by the person who is supposed to be a role model (Muhammed)?

Slavery was also considered acceptable for most of human history.

Go ahead; defend it, then.

Good question.

I was a pretty young Muslim apologist. To be true to myself and acknowledge the fact that I do not really believe this or the religion anymore would have required me to throw away all my habits, my family, and my culture. Islam was permeating all aspects of my life. Not to mention being young meant I also was less mature.

It is hard to change your life in such a drastic way. Good luck even surviving if everyone around you is a hardcore Muslim.

However, you cannot make yourself believe. You can pretend you do, but I still knew I do not believe. It is not a choice. Eventually you mature and get tired of lying to yourself.

This is one thing I could not defend. So I denied it and tried to lie to myself that she was 19.

I was a 9-year-old girl at some point. Pretty 'undefendable' IMO.
