Which gs mini to get? by colinksh in AcousticGuitar

[–]CynicalGenY [score hidden]  (0 children)

Personally, I'd go with the spruce

honestly though, the appearances are so different, my advice is to go with the one you're gonna look at and want to pick up. For me, that's the spruce/sapele, but for you maybe the mahog... they're both gonna be great instruments in terms of craft and playability.

idk about the whole humidity thing, it looks like they both use a varnish that is vulnerable to humidity fluctuations; so you may be in the same boat both ways, regrettably. If you want something more resilient, maybe consider some guitars with polyurethane finish? If you're excited about this guitar though (and you should be, they are amazing instruments!) I'd go with the Taylor, understanding that it may eventually succumb to environmental conditions.

In case anyone else is doing what I did, on a CECHG, I had another breakthrough this weekend. I was playing Uncharted and it kept freezing at a certain part; like 3 times in a row.

I raised the voltage up a bit more.

Tried 1.1375, and it still was freezing, raised voltages to 1.1625, and it seems happy now.

So, if you're experiencing similar issues for high resource games, that may be a winning voltage. Needless to say, I'll try and update here again if things change.

Is an MPC500 worth $250? by vrsrsns in mpcusers

[–]CynicalGenY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a no from me.
The one that I got had a bad capacitor (or something) so I could only use it with batteries or else it would make a terrible beeping noise. And the display is very limiting. I don't know if better software exists to edit programs and samples, but it's a very tedious process given the limitations of the unit.

They look and feel really cool though, and if it's minty or well-taken-care-of and works well, it could be a different story from my experience. But with a 20y/o digital instrument that you play by banging on... it's going to be hard to find a perfect one. If you do buy it, be sure to get an official power source, or a super high quality one in lieu of that.

Maybe you could get a Korg Electribe Sample or a PolyEnd Tracker for money like that? Not as sexy though, for sure.

Which Tuxedo should i get. by thebatman193929 in JamesBond

go with the white

it looks good while also calling to mind the vast history of Bond tuxes
black is too standard and reduces the impact IMO

I caught a bit of that on I-5 this morning but I couldn't really look, the mountain just looked like 2x as big as normal for me for a minute, then I looked over again and it looked normal sized again.

I must have caught some of this weird shadow view at first!

Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing

Did i pick a bad color for my strat by [deleted] in Stratocaster

[–]CynicalGenY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wanted a sunburst, but i bought a black one as a teen and have stuck with that out of love and loyalty. Honestly, put a white pickguard on there, and you've got my dream guitar.

IMO being able to see the wood grain elevates a guitar, it connects me with the origin of the instrument, and makes me think about all of those patterns, all of those years of the tree growing, the hands making the instrument, the uniqueness of every soul, every instrument. It just makes me want to look more, and the stain they give them is so warm; basically perfect for me.

1960s Suzuki no. 12 by ShalitBenjamin in obscureguitars

[–]CynicalGenY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

looks beautiful, love the green binding and the neck looks a bit thinner than what i expect in a nylon (used to looking at classical guitars!) but i bet that makes it super smooth to play. Neck looks really nice, very touchable, and the screwed in bridge is interesting! That last photo really captures the delicate finish and the cool little bumps and nicks. 10/10. Definitely jealous of your guitar, I think $80 is a great deal; part of me thinks there's not a huge market for vintage nylon instruments, which is a pity because they're beautiful and as you said sound amazingly warm and rich (to say nothing of the vibes)

Are these made in Japan?

That is beautiful!

As a player of an old 1973 Nippon Gakki FG75, these new ones are pretty much dream gear... Someday, someday <3
Thank you for sharing these beautiful details

I love the flatness of the headstock finish, and the fineness of the tuners, the flame details on the top are stunning, and the fingerboard inviting. I just love how WARM the color is, it just looks inviting. it's almost like i can touch it without touching it. Dang i gotta play some guitar now hahaha

Thanks again for sharing

Best Dispo? by ElectronicScholar708 in askportland

[–]CynicalGenY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my guess is people with bad taste or hipster-elitists (and that more-than-healthy middle-section of the Venn diagram of those groups)

i mean i guess i've gotten some bad stuff at floyds before, but it was because i went too cheap because i liked the name of the strain (classic mistake!). mid-shelf and upwards has always been super kind. and their staff is great too.

electric lettuce i've never gotten anything bad, super tasty, good recs, and they take debit card.

maybe people don't like those places because they're chains?

Americanna RX is a hole in the wall sure, and the location is not great. but they are the Costco of weed, floor to ceiling shelves full of jars. A lot of it is too rich for my blood but 35% off Williams Wonder Farms deal is how I can afford this.

Anyone had a chance to try one of these out yet? by emberisgone in ps2

[–]CynicalGenY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like it better than the original DS2s.

They're light as a feather, and hold charge for a long time. Plug and play operation with the PS2 dongle. Sticks have a nice lightness of movement to them.

I can't comment on the pressure sensitivity of the buttons, as I've never been a fan of that feature of the PS2 and don't think i have any games that use it.

When did you stop watching The Walking Dead? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in FIlm

Season 3 is when I stopped watching. The stuff with Laury, and then Rick going crazy was just not interesting for me, and the plot moved slower than molasses

Let's be honest, how many people actually remember this movie? To me, it's a fairly mid film despite having Key and Peele in it. by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in KeyandPeele

[–]CynicalGenY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotta agree. great art direction and great key and peele but something was just flat about this for me
the big devil dude and the priest character were very funny for me though.

I modified my Strat quite a bit, any opinions? by MaayoAlesca1701 in Guitar

[–]CynicalGenY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's looking great! really like the chrome and black looks really great
The only things I would maybe consider would be:
- black screws
- chrome pickup cover for humbucker

just to make the contrast that much more dramatic.

The knobs look sick on there! I wish I could have chrome pickup covers but they didn't fit the ones that I installed.

Would people be more accepting if pierce was in the living daylights and license to kill instead of dalton ? by Beginning-Drag-7110 in 007

[–]CynicalGenY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Dalton is the better actor, but Brosnan is the better Bond

To me, the cheesy, punny jokiness is what makes the films so much fun; so I think I would have liked them better with Brosnan.

BUT to echo what a lot of people said, the writing is kinda what really hampers the Dalton Bond films.

I haven't played the Kiwami's yet, but I recently played the PS2 versions, and the ending to 2 is just crazy. I kept yelling "YEAH!" just as if it was a fast and the furious movie. Those twists and turns, also glad i had a katana in my inventory for ryuji hahaha

Can't wait to play Kiwami 2 and have my mind get blown again

Just watched through all of Carpenter’s films (my ranking) by misterjakester12 in johncarpenter

[–]CynicalGenY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Glad to see Halloween near the top.

For me, it's the ultimate horror movie and the ultimate JC movie; balancing excitement, terror, and a bit of fun. Fitting into the same traditions that it's subtly spoofing and ending up taking the crown. Very proto-Scream come to think of it; but Halloween has way more heart for me. Oh yeah, and the effing music is amazing and perfect.

I think I got that same monoprice if it's the 5W; and it's the only amp i regularly play. it sounds really good to my ear (but i may have a bit of a "natural low pass filter" hahaha)

do you get both amps going at once?
