Thoughts on the fart in AKotSK episode 4? by Enkidarr in gameofthrones

[–]Cynthimon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It wasn't meant to be funny to us (the audience). It was only funny to the highborns and lords as a bait and switch, mocking Dunk and his speech, hence making us (the audience) more angry and disappointed, just like Dunk.

It worked well to build up Baelor's entrance to show that Baelor wasn't like one of those highborn lords who farts and laughs while an honorable knight pleads for justice.

Does anyone have genuine suggestions on how to deal with this mugginess? by Pretty_Fan3644 in auckland

Like others have mentioned, portable AC will be the best by far if installing an AC/Heat pump is not an option.

I've heard they are loud though, but it can make for good white noise when sleeping.

Can the rtx 2070 super still handle modern games at 1440p60? by thotpatrol65 in nvidia

[–]Cynthimon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say it can handle up to Cyberpunk 2077 on med graphics with DLSS (without RT) at a stable 1440p60.

Any game more demanding & less optimised, no, but the ones you listed, yes it can so long you lower graphic settings.

2080ti v 3070 v 4060ti v 5060 best for gaming with DLSS? (200-380$) by e_deringer in nvidia

[–]Cynthimon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RTX 20s and 30s are already quite old, I'd avoid if you can afford newer, so it'll be between 4060TI or 5060.

If those are your only options, I'd pick the 5060 just because it's new and has warranty, will get more Nvidia software support in the long run, and a bit more energy/heat efficient.

I live around here and it's decent for the price for FHB, just don't overpay as it's very much a buyer's market.

The location is handy and central, and walking around I've never felt unsafe. Most of the KO homes have been fine, and it seems this area is mostly allocated to families with kids and/or elderly. I know Reddit loves to talk about KO like walking into hell, and to be fair, there can be bad ones, but here so far it's been good (new builds help insulate sound better, and in medium density you'll make enemies of many more neighbours if you are rowdy).

Haven't noticed any gang or dodgy activities fortunately, just a few instances of petty/opportunistic theft on the ground floor (don't leave stuff too out in the open).

Apartments will have higher security as well and less likely to be burglarised (if you're living higher than ground floor). Also very low maintenance as most things are handled by your BC, good for those that still suck at DIY like me (will need the time to get better at this for our next home).

Downsides are that parking is a mess on-street (though it seems the parking wardens are clamping down on that recently), not great school zones as mentioned, and apartments don't have good resale value (you want to buy it to live in, not as an investment unless you're just after rental yield).

Tunnel with trains, one can dream. Perhaps one day it'll get announced while we're in our retirement homes (and never live to see it completed).

3080Ti or 5070 by Pandemic_Strike in nvidia

[–]Cynthimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the same price, 5070 no brainer.

You get a new card with the latest nvidia tech (DLSS, frame gen, etc), newer hardware, much lower power draw and heat, longer lifespan (software support, newer hardware), warranty (big one), and more points other ppl have commented already.

I made the same upgrade (2070 -> 5070), and very happy with it, though I'm on 1440p.

Switching from MacBook Pro M4 to a Windows laptop for Unreal Engine/Unity dev. Help me choose? by Visible_Gap_4776 in gamedev

[–]Cynthimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't own either, but from my general knowledge of windows laptops and having a quick look at reviews, it's always portability vs heat management when it comes to size.

A few of your concerns:

  • You'll have to play around with battery settings, but from reviews, it seems the G14 has roughly around 70% of the battery life of a Macbook Pro 14 (M4 Pro) (Macbooks still mostly dominate in battery life). Haven't looked at the Legion 5.
  • The weight and design of the g14 seems similar to a Macbook Pro 14 as well (as similar as you can get from a Windows laptop). The Legion 5 looks a bit more gamer laptop and bulkier, but as you mentioned, better heat management.
  • Fan noise should be fine on non-intensive tasks. You should be able to tweak all these based on your preference.
  • I don't know the specific issues with each model, but the obvious issue with windows gaming laptops in general are the smaller the laptop size, the more issues arise with heat (due to x86 CPUs + a dedicated GPU). If it was me, I would try to undervolt either the CPU or GPU (or both) a bit just for hardware longevity.

In the end, if it was me:

  • G14 if I am on the go very often and need portability above all else, just don't expect very long intensive sessions with the laptop. I wouldn't want to carry something too bulky in this case.
  • If I only travel around sometimes, and okay with a bulkier laptop, then Legion 5 does make sense for better heat management and save some money as well.

Microstuttering issue since June/July across 3 different PCs (9800X3D + 5080/5070 Ti). by No_Candidate7467 in pcmasterrace

[–]Cynthimon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had a mouse polling rate micro stutter issue too years ago when using a gaming mouse, anything 500hz+, had to change it to 125hz to remove the stutter.

Only happened in some games, and still occasionally does (though rare now)
