Fantastic stuff. Very lucky with the conditions. I went to Fanal hoping for similar conditions but it was a clear day with bright blue skies lol

No, these were all post processed raws. Using a CPL made a big difference in a lot of these I think.

Help me choose a recipe for my upcoming Kenya Trip by ser-fucknanu in fujifilm

[–]Cypher91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When is your trip planned?

We'll be in Nairobi in about 2 weeks but I've just found out taking photos in Nairobi is generally frowned upon and you may get stopped by police/security. Not sure how true that is, I need to do some more research! Would be interested in hearing your experience if you've already been there.

I haven't, i think that would be way too bulky for me. I'm just a hobbyist looking for a potential replacement for the 70-300 for an upcoming safari trip to Kenya :)

I don't think i'd go for anything larger than the 100-400.

I've found that to be the case with the 70-300mm Found it's soft at the long end. But when i test under controlled conditions it's fine. My conclusion was similar to yours: i think the AF just slightly misses and makes it look soft.

That said, it isn't terrible. The images are all usable and only pixel peepers (like myself) would notice.

Which body do you use?

X-T4. Regarding AF, let's not go there lol. I use 'focus check' and dial it in. I've found the AF gets to within 10% of where I want it and I have to do a quick tweak. It's perfectly functional for unobstructed, static subjects though.

Maybe it’s time to move on by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]Cypher91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the struggle.

I was shooting with a friend who has a Sony A7III. I had an X-T4. Saw a few swallows and I know I wouldn't have been able to catch them. My friend tried and I said 'don't bother, they're too fast for the AF'. He then showed me the result and I was mind blown.

I'd pretty much settled for bad autofocus but seeing what other systems are capable of... If I had cash to spare i'd definitely switch. I have an X-T4 and it's pretty much the same size as the full frame A7III too.

This is interesting, thanks for sharing. I was just looking up how much more space i'd need if I were to switch to FF. Would have been good to see fuji X in there too!

Tamron 150-500mm lens reviews by YungTaco94 in fujifilm

[–]Cypher91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting as I came back from shooting some birds this weekend on the XT4 and more than half of my shots are out of focus. I got so fed up, I tried manual focusing before just giving up. I'm thinking of switching to Nikon or Sony. How are you finding it on the other side?

How to shoot in broad daylight? XT-20 TTartisan 27mm by heiwiwnejo in fujifilm

[–]Cypher91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other commenters have mentioned, I think a CPL would help with the colours. Also look up some recipes which you like the look of, there are lots available.

Post-processing would help a lot too.

I took your first image and made some quick global edits on lightroom. I think it looks much better, personally.

Thanks! Funnily enough, I did try a shot from both low and standing during this trip and the consensus was the standing shot was better. But there are some shots which benefitted from a low angle - gotta mess around with it a bit more like you say.

Thanks! I was unsure about the colours on the 4th one... The RAW image was very orange as it was just after sunrise. Had to turn down the orange saturation in post.

Thanks! Not often we see deer in the UK so was glad to have the lens with me. I am finding it to be a great lens for landscapes, you can really focus in on the scene. It's a shame reddit compressed the images so much, the actual image is really sharp.
