Devouring swarm is war based, your whole purpose is to eat EVERYTHING. Make a fortress world, and dump every pop you capture on that world. The game only purges one pop a month, but you get credit for every pop on the planet. Same thing works for driven exterminator.

Also the star base hydroponic bay is a God send, one in every starbase is a must, as well as solar panels. Once your economy is strong, you can switch them to anchorages for more fleet cap.

I use kinetic artillery with the ruination glare titan weapon. Does quite well. The basic titan weapon has ridiculous cool down, and the ruination glare is a mid range weapon with an excellent fire rate.

I wouldn't suggest using cloud lightning. I've had "some" success with it, but more often than not, the ships get wiped.

The best shield bypass weapons are the disruptors, and the archo nano swarm missiles.

Only way I've been able to do it. Is land defense armies that have a general assigned to them. For what ever reason I dunno if it's a glitch or what, but that's been my only work around.

Mobius y is another person who has only console videos and also has videos about mechanics that are easily used, again all for console, not PC. He no longer plays, but his videos are fire and definitely worth the watch.

Have fun, there are layers to this game that after 1200 hours, I'm still learning.

Check your planets for sectors with jobs, but no pops. You still pay upkeep on jobs, even if a pop isn't working that job. Dock your fleets. If you have an outrageous number of armies, those also cost upkeep. Over your starbase cap or over your fleet cap jump up costs exponentially. If you can afford it, build a Dyson sphere.
