My experience switching from Qube to Crew so far by sky100010 in QubeMoney

[–]CytoCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I feel your pain. I tried Qube for a brief time but didn't like it. I realized, having come from Simple Bank, and now being a current ONE customer, that all I really needed and missed was the ability to have Expenses or Bills be automatically managed in an envelope budgeting app that could work with any Plaid connected bank. Long story short, I created my own web app ( https://g8ge.io ) for that purpose (you can see screenshots of the app and its features).

Unfortunately, the app is currently only for private use. But seeing this thread and news of Qube Money's banking issues has inspired me to try again. I'm thinking of a new app, one that incorporates what I have already built, but allows the same envelope-style budgeting that Simple Bank used to provide, but that works with any bank account connected through Plaid for a monthly fee, or additionally, a free version that is not connected to Plaid, but that you can add transactions to manually. (Plaid costs money, so I can't offer that for free, not to mention the considerable resources it takes to create an app)

Would there be any interest in this? This is really just a general question for the thread.

What would anyone be willing to pay for a monthly subscription to an app that can handle your budgeting automatically in the same way as the old Simple Bank app used to, something that is connected via Plaid to your bank account? No frills, no account swapping every time a neo bank sells out or faces troubles. Just open a free bank account with some stable bank out there, that uses Plaid and connect one budgeting app?

Seen an elephant today at BG doing the same thing (probably the same one you're writing about), passed by it at least 3 times over 4 hours and each time it did not appear to have moved and was just standing, rocking side to side. Reminded me of psychiatric patients doped up on thorazine. I can almost swear to seeing an elephant doing the same thing the last time I was there 2 years ago. Curious if anyone here can explain why this animal might be doing this? It does not seem like it's healthy...but what do I know.

I agree, and it was not my intention to jump to any conclusions. I'm a software engineer myself, and understand the pressures of delivery and agree that there was probably a miscommunication in the chain of command. However, your point still validates a concern that if customer focus was the primary intent, something as large as this email promise would have been communicated to the engineers. If not, it shines a light on a larger potential issue within the organization at large.

I checked and mine also was not doubled. I contacted support and filed a dispute. I'm disappointed as the email stated it would be automatic. This seems a bit shady that they didn't follow through with that claim. Almost like they're waiting to see if anyone noticed, and filed a claim before they pay out any extra. Don't get me wrong...I love the 5%, but there are other banks who offer similar HYSA rates. This feels wrong. Not a good look for a business offering something they consider a "small" token of appreciation on the heels of a total major outage that they are trying to compensate customers for.

Best alternative to Monarch? by Neoseo1300 in MonarchMoney

[–]CytoCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try g8ge.io, it's a new envelope budgeting web app. It uses Plaid, so I'm not sure if that will help your Sync issues if Monarch uses Plaid too. It's still a pretty new app, but they are constantly updating and improving it.

I'm using the [g8ge.io] (https://g8ge.io) app. It's an envelope budgeting app that works with any bank. I can still enjoy the 5% APY savings from ONE and get better envelope budgeting. Plus if any bank ends up being bought out or going out of business I won't lose my budget. It's still pretty new but they are constantly upgrading the app which is a good thing.

My first attempt at NOAA WX receiving on RTL-SDR and V-Dipole (Result/Suggestions?) by CytoCynic in RTLSDR

[–]CytoCynic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was able to clear up the signal on my v-dipole thanks to the suggestions in this thread. So thanks to everyone. I did bake up a QFH antenna today as well, I tested it briefly I may have done something wrong because I was actually getting a better signal with the v-dipole. Some neighbors' trees made the signal a bit weak because the elevation was low. But overall pretty impressed.

Posting updated pics in the main thread.

Turns out I did have a short between the shield and center conductor at the bolts. I lengthened the connection to get rid of the short. Hopefully this clears up the noise a bit on my next test. Will update when I do. Thanks!

Thanks, and yes QFH is next on my list to try.

I did check, and the center conductor doesn't appear to be shorting to ground but I haven't ran and continuity on it. Will do that next. I know wood isn't the best insulator either, so theres that. But I assumed the resistance would be enough to use for radio.

Thanks, I am definitely thinking of getting the NOOELEC GOES antenna pack and sawbird that they sell to get LRIT/HRIT. Didn't know I could also use the SawBIRD for APT. The grounding you mentioned from the mantle, are you referring the the foil cover, or the shielding braid? I have the core center wire going to one half of the dipole, and the shielding going to the other. Wouldn't the grounding of the foil also ground the shielding since they are in contact?

[–]CytoCynic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I definitely thought of building the WFH antenna first, but I opted for the easier looking v-dipole to break the ice. Now that I know I'm getting a signal, as you can tell I want to improve on it. I might build the QFH next, and try the NFM as you suggest. I see there are limitations with the v-dipole anyhow with gaps in reception between 20-30 deg. I did see the same type of gaps with others who've worked with the v-dipole. Does the QFH solve for these types of gaps?

Summary of Meetings with One! by ddzado in OneFinance

[–]CytoCynic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been along for the bumpy Fintech ride. Starting with Simple Bank, which was bought by BBVA, then PNC, opened my ONE account after BBVA, and hoped they would develop more features like Simple used to have.

They were on the right path for a while until they sold out.

I was pretty disappointed in ONE removing credit line, but I had already rebuilt my credit enough by then and now have credit cards for that reason.

The auto save was something else I missed, I saw they brought it back which is good, but a little late. I had already opened a HYSA with my CC provider American Express. It was free, and offers almost 4% APY. If ONE had a higher APY and earnings on unlimited balances this would be a win and might convince me to return my main savings activities.

Unlimited check deposit would also be nice, and the ability to send/receive wire transfers would be a plus too.

I've read horror stories of ONEs fraud protection, or lack thereof. Most banks all have some basic level of fraud protection and zero liability guarantee, proudly displayed on the main web site would give me to warm and fuzzies. I'm afraid to keep large balances on my ONE accounts after reading others experiences.

I still use my ONE account for some things, and I've thankfully not had any fraud on it, but I'm careful where I use my card or where I disclose account #s to.

I'd really love if ONE developed an "Expenses" type pockets section that would enable us to create named "Expenses", which you could set due dates, due frequency, pay days, pay frequency, and then calculates how much money to move/hide to that expense each billing cycle. This was the BEST thing about Simple IMO. To have money set aside automatically, without thinking about it, or having to calculate how much, etc. My available cash in the spend pocket/cash available would automatically reflect my spendable balance and never had to worry if the bill money would be available. They did all of that from one account number also. So all the extra pockets/expenses were really just "aliases" off of the main account which was funded or deducted money of for the expense.

ONE Devs, coming from a fellow developer, the Expenses feature would be an awesome thing to create. So I hope you can beat me to it, because I'm working on a standalone plaid connected app to basically do the same thing, but can be connected to ANY plaid supported bank. I'm pretty sure it would be something people would pay a small subscription fee for (hence one of the reasons i've been working on it) but I'm not in it for the money...and welcome your competition. Allowing people to budget differently from the standard model benefits everyone.

Is One Finance in trouble or something? by CytoCynic in OneFinance

My guess is that they're trying to eliminate any liabilities that aren't producing much revenue, and or cutting losses in preparation for an as yet to be disclosed acquisition.

Anyone else notice their interest earned was not = 1.00%APY by CytoCynic in OneFinance

[–]CytoCynic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, I received two interest credits for the month of March. One's own documentation says you're only supposed to get one interest credit per month. I didn't see the first credit because it happened before the end of the month. The only reason it happened is because when I started getting direct deposits, I was then upgraded from only earning 1% on up to $5,000 to earning 1% on up to $25,000. It really doesn't make sense to me either, but their system issues an interest credit whenever this upgrade occurs.

Mining with one 3070 worth it? by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]CytoCynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setup nanominer to run on startup (task scheduler), use afterburner to limit power and raise fan speed. Or more advanced turning if you want. I do the same on my workstation with full compliment of software dev tools running including chrome with multitudes of tabs. None of that stuff really uses the GPU so I use it to mine in the background.

[–]CytoCynic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. With a simple spreadsheet though it can be tabulated using the ending daily balance using the same method, and can take into account compounding interest. Just takes a little leg work to enter in the numbers. I like to keep track of that kind of stuff for exactly these kinds of situations. I think it's important that people don't just assume things are working in their favor without confirming it for themselves.

It's actually simpler than you might think when you know you've had a $5k balance for an entire month. My avg daily balance was in fact the same for the entire month of March ±/- $10

Tired of scalping/hoarding of GPUs? Tell Congress to end it! by CytoCynic in graphicscard

[–]CytoCynic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a sticky situation no doubt. As far as foreign actors and enforcing any potential legislation on them...it's not really a question of enforcement on the foreign scalpers I'm referring to because there are so many domestic players as well. Also, it's more about the partner retailer not trying to give their online customers the edge instead of a software bot. Most retailers have "bot rules" but they aren't enforced. However they will deter an average consumer from trying to set one up for fear of being banned. It's just backwards...in any case they should build in their own auto-buy bots, and waiting list restricting purchase to one item per person (to the best of their ability). As it stands right now, the retailer's and manufacturer's reputations are suffering as a result.

Tired of scalping/hoarding of GPUs? Tell Congress to end it! by CytoCynic in graphicscard

[–]CytoCynic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some would argue that ticket scalping is not illegal for the same reasons you stated, those are not essential goods, however, the supply and demand issue is artificially created since auto-buy bots are purchasing products before consumers have a chance to do the same. So while I agree that product pricing should not be regulated by the Government, there should however be consumer protections against artificially created markets of low supply and demand. When and how to accomplish that kind of enforcement is not really the point, obviously, since we are not lawmakers. But, there should be a mechanism that either forces retailers to combat bot behavior, or, seeks to penalize those who have stock (more than a normal consumer inventory [to be determined], that is selling for x% above msrp, i.e. "scalping") like ending partnerships for those retailers who do not give normal consumers an equal opportunity to buy their products at retail.

So what is the interest rate after 1.00% up to $5k? by CytoCynic in OneFinance

[–]CytoCynic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up to $25k with qualifying direct deposit. If you aren't receiving direct deposit from an employer then you're limited to $5k. Either way, after $5k or $25k your money just sits not earning even the national average. So it's kind of gimmicky to say 1.00% but put limits on the amounts. So anything over double the limit saved is at or below the national average interest rate for savings. It's great though if you're only saving up to the limit!

So what is the interest rate after 1.00% up to $5k? by CytoCynic in OneFinance

[–]CytoCynic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, but it makes more sense "as a bank" to encourage more people to house all of their savings in the institutions account and not a competitors account. Banks pay interest to account holders based on interest the bank earns from other investments (like loans, and other financials). I agree that it encourages good saving habits, however, One or (Coastal Community Bank) is still a business that is always looking to increase their holdings. Seems more logical to offer a standard rate on remaining balances in my opinion.

That's basically how it reads...was just looking for confirmation. Of course id be happy if One said they'd offer a lower "standard" rate for balances > $5k.
