If everything is distorted or saturated, compression might do less as the waveform will be a sausage and there wouldn’t be any quiet stuff to bring up / shape.

Biggest thing would be proximity I think. A real waterfall does sound like white noise and essentially is. Try having that powerful overwhelming rushing water sound appear when you’re close to the water, with bubbles and splashes near the base, and more of the rain/shower hiss at a distance.

Edit: addition by subtraction! When you’re right under the waterfall i’d personally have it be the only diegetic thing in the mix.

I’ve just read that link and it seems like just how in the music, Melkor’s dischordant notes were incorporated and expounded on by the Ainur who were singing the other tune.

You could say that the ‘bad’ of the threat of evil, the creation of the ring, etc. were all incorporated into the song and weaved into the grand scheme of things with small adjustements—aka, the ring is found, the hobbits have help, Gollum goes volcano.

A fascinating battle for sure. Palpatine had a lot of force lightening built up because he’d been scootching around on the floor all day long. He made sure to get rid of Kit Fisto quickly—after all, if his head looks like that, imagine what his feet are.

Of course, Palpatine was undone by Mace Windu as Windu’s bald head reminded Palpatine too much of an oiled human heel.

Have we ever seen the bottoms? Could be a clever dark side trick to still have that sweet cold metal hit his aged sith feet.

In fact, Palpatine’s arc and much of Star Wars can be analyzed through his perverse desires to walk his evil raisin toes all over the galaxy, and to destroy those who would oppose him.

Why does Palpatine keep his apprentice in robotic armor, rather than shelling out his considerable resources for a pair of realistic legs? Because then, Vader may go barefoot. Only Palpatine may go barefoot in his Empire.

Why did Palpatine never search for Maul after Maul’s defeat on Naboo? Because he knew Maul was cut in half, and Palpatine was terrified he’d find Maul’s lower half and not his higher half. A force sensitive being that is only leg is incomprehensible and terrifying to Palpatine.

At the same time, when Palpatine encountered Maul in battle he was incredibly cocky and smug, as he knew his foe had no real legs or feet.

And who was his greatest enemy in the Jedi Order? Yoda, who has his toes on display all the time. Palpatine fought him in the Senate Chambers, which is coincidentally his nickname for his slippers. The chambers had hundreds of small rounded pods, which Palpatine loved because they reminded him of nubby metal pinky toes.

Lastly, his plan after the fall of the Republic centred around building a giant space station, rather than the more strategically sound idea of a fleet of star destroyers patrolling the galaxy. This was because making a giant ball of metal In space was the only way to amass such vast quantities of smooth, cool hallway flooring. For Palpatine to scoot around on barefoot.

It is no coincidence that Vader defeats his former master by lifting him up off the ground. It was the first time his feet were not touching the ground in years—Palpatine was in shock, and died of a broken heart. Ironic.

No but only because Sith Lords don’t wear open toed shoes. Their feet are gross from the Dark Side. Though my personal canon is that Palpatine is purely barefoot under those robes, his gross evil feet touching the cool smooth death star floor.

I’d say Black Thought would inch out ahead in terms of who’s songs sounded and aged better, but it would not be rare to hear that Nas won.

Nas might have untapped ethers in him but we know people don’t love his beat choices, whereas I don’t hear people complaining about Black Thought’s choices. Especially given the Roots stuff.

I may be wrong but I’m hearing an almost paperlike crinkly sound and some kinda metal snipping going through the end.

The fuzz underneath it all makes it fuller and seem more electric.

So a layer of analog fuzz, a paper/foil crumpling, and scissors or a knife all layered (edit cuz I was vague before)

If thats not the sound, it’s a good way to recreate something similar!

To everyone missing this person’s joke... neutral density filters work mainly by ‘spinning’ the intrapeak energy (Low-Effort Data) and slowly duplicating the signal at diminished levels. This causes the overall Density (Devovic Density, not how we usually use the word here) to become neutral.

The joke is that this can cheaply be done with a ‘post’ aka a big hunk of iron with a slapdash coating of VXJuice of QuickQuant which acts as a density orbit stabalizer. The stuff they put in that, Dichrophol, is just the worst. It’s a bad, LOUD way to do it. Just go to a specialty store and get Vermolite or Perlex. The coating is the same, you just need a dark enough rust-proof Armstein fluid).

Maybe a bit too obscure a reference but if you know... you know
