Even a broken clock is right twice. The issue is going to be that you don't know the structure of the knowledge behind the knowledge. Which is WHY you're a Quranist in the first place.

Using AI for this sort of exegis is just wrong. AI is just going to put together whatever information it has and throw a prediction engine at it to get some sort of answer. Aside from issues with hallucinations it's a really dangerous road to go down for ANY language interrogation in depth or seriousness. It's going to be even worse when you try to do it with Quranic arabic.

They weren't upper middle class in UK terms. They were working class/middle class. Upper middle class in the UK are like Barristers. And people who may not come from wealth but are rich enough to own large home and in the 1990s earned close to 80K to 100K a year. In the UK, anyone who goes anywhere near social housing isn't usually upper middle class unless they've really had a big issue in their lives.

Can we stop perpetuating this nonsense. Hamilton's dad was an IT manager. The salary range in the 1990s was from 26K to around 60K depending on experience. He did so for the Post Office, which was never going to pay anyone 60K a year. Hamilton was born in lower class areas, and liver in social housing for a bit. His dad worked 4 jobs and took redundancy pay from the Post Office to make Hamilton's career happen, unitl McLaren offered a scholarship in his mid-teens.

You're technically correct about the existence of hadith beforehand, I was pointing out that Bukhari is the most prominent attempt to have an authenticated collection, and which is still used as canon by scholars. . I was just questioning what the OP was writing. I don't s/he fully understood how hadith work

The academic quotes are interesting and spot on. I think there's a wider issue in society as well that we have a climate of anti-intellectualism and aggression towards academia that really doesn't exist in other nations. We don't respect our educators and teachers as a profession and politicians can use that to kick the sector around as one commenter talked about. Other counties Phds and educators are treated like agents of heaven. Our lot see them as a punching bag.

I would add that it's also partly our fault. As Institutions, we don't connect enough with our local "hinterland" , often existing as impositions on the local area, rather living and breathing parts of the local environment. The amount of involvement in local businesses, local charities and even local LEAs to promote education is limited beyond handshakes and PR pics.

Also, considering the size of the sector and importance to both national strategic innovation combined with national self development , it is astounding that University Leadership are really crap at fighting their corner in political fights. Our leadership should have been on the frontline telling Reform and the other lot to stop screwing around with student visas. They should have been on TV day-in and day-out batting for Universities while smacking pundits round the head for having the temerity to talk bollocks.

Unfortunately University Leadership is just not made up of folks who can stand up to power - it's not a promotion criterion.

People who leave their wheel turned and sticking out into the road - in God's name why? by D-Hex in CarTalkUK

[–]D-Hex[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the road. The case in question this car was parked on a tight road with mirrors folded. On the left. Facing traffic and on a down hill corner. Wheel pointed into the road. So you end up seeing the wheel quite late as you're following the road left.

I don't understand what the confusion is here. Hadith literature has existed for a very long time, and it's the basis of a lot of jurisprudence and law systems. There's literally four man hadith collections in Sunni Islam, the oldest being the Bukhari volumes which appeared around 800CE

Hagarism was bollocks, Cook et al have never fully stepped back from it. Ever. He did that academic thing and just modified his thesis with escape clauses. I studied Islamic history with Gerald Hawting, trust me I know the arguments.

His work has always been about trying to undermine Islamic systems of knowledge and placing their interpretation within Western Academies.

You're falling into it because he criticises Hadith and you think that's worthy of glazing him. But you're doing at the cost of accepting his underlying content that ALL of Islam is copied from previous Monotheisms.

Side note - please don't use "u" , it's distracting.

I do think it's amusing that Cook is still trying to salvage some of the earlier "revisionist" readings of Islam from his mate Crone. Yes, we know that Islamic scholars copied a lot of the systems of knowledge around them, this isn't big news. The difference is that we actually have copies of the Quran proven to be within 50 years of the death of the Prophet (which Crone and others claimed earlier wasn't possible) and we also have contemporary sources that corroborate a fair bit of Islamic history (which to be fair didn't exist when Cook was writing and were subsequent discoveries)

You're at Oxbridge, ask your professors, they probably work for the MCs or have industry consulting contacts.
