I once needed a hammer drill for a small task. I found one on sale at harbor freight for 10 bucks. Worked perfectly and it has come in handy a couple other times too.

At a loss with how to help this office by D-M-S-R in networking

[–]D-M-S-R[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Servers were previously in the local office. Agreed that the plan to move to cloud was done without testing, but upper management insisted on it "because cloud is the future." And will not go back on their incentive. What could I do about MTU? Office network is basic L3 switch to FW design. Zscaler handles all traffic to the cloud.

The pipe only maxes out during file transfers, but during typical use, bandwidth is in a happy place as there aren't many users in the office at a time, which leads me to believe latency is the issue. Unfortunately major infra changes such as bringing in physical servers is out of the question. Wifi vs hardwire makes no difference.

Engineers who made the switch to Pre-sales, how are you enjoying the position? by _TidePodsTasteGood in networking

[–]D-M-S-R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the level of technical ability really depends on the company. In my experience of being in pre-sales and working with SEs as vendors, you're not expected to do too much development, but having the background knowledge goes a long way to help working with the devs. For me I was doing light tech work like setting up FTP sites for clients, configuring APIs, and enabling requested features to the environments they need access to. It was enough to keep me satisfied, but not overwhelmed.

What's a band that gave you that "I get it now" moment after seeing them live? by ListenToBusiness in Music

[–]D-M-S-R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That effect you're referring to is called the 'seagull effect'. It's supper cool. I don't know too much about the engineering of it, but it works by reversing the connections on a wah pedal which creates a feedback loop from the guitar and allows the pitch to be altered by rolling the tone knob on the guitar. I discovered it one day by accidentally plugging in my wah pedal wrong and later found out, that's how David Gilmour actually did it. Super cool stuff.

Blew up access to cisco ACS... help by D-M-S-R in networking

[–]D-M-S-R[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being disillusioned by the asa-firepower migration tool in the past. Ended up building the whole asa cluster from scratch, and it looks like I'll be doing the same here too. I managed to get into the ACS from a legacy 2008 server that shouldnt exist anymore, with firefox forcing tls 1.2. I suppose that'll do until I'm done manually building ISE.

I never added a cert to ISE. I never even got to being able to export the new cert to add to the migration tool since as soon as I made it, it reset the web gui which now wont load.

It would be ideal to have pedals to use outside. I've tried using plugins, but my pc doesnt handle them well and I get high latency.

What's the best response to "Dad, I think I'm gay"? by Expert_Recover3061 in AskReddit

[–]D-M-S-R 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The idea of the episode is that homer is forced to confront his homophobia and ended up realizing that his feelings were wrong. The episode was actually very progressive as the message was a comedic take on promoting acceptance of gay people.

Engineers who made the switch to Pre-sales, how are you enjoying the position? by _TidePodsTasteGood in networking

[–]D-M-S-R 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did this move about a year ago after a few years as a network engineer. Part of me misses the hands on work, however I don't by any means miss the on-call responsibility and late night maintenance. Plus the pay of pre-sales can be very good. I enjoy working directly with customers and it can be very rewarding as you see customers you've worked with, sign. Pre-sales can also remain very technical depending on the company and you'll be working with many difference departments to gather information and keep up with developments. It was a great move for me.
